Hi fellas, I'm back on line after 3 months.. Anyway you might remember a garage over here put 8 litres of oil into my TT engine and wrecked it. They got on to API engines who sent them a "premier engine" which has new pistons, valves, gaskets etc only now they are saying that they thought it would arrive ready to drop in. they weren't expecting to have to take all the ancilliaries off my old engine. I want to know is it a big job and should i be buying new parts to put onto it or will my old parts suffice.. Injectors etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated Richie

I'd suggest you take it elsewhere and bill them if they're talking shit like that. Apart from second hand engines, you will never get injectors etc... When swapping any parts make sure they use new gaskets etc ;)

true, they are shites mate...i have never run across a replacement engine coming with ancillaries , reason for this is you buy the engine not its extra parts, the total cost for a complete engine ready to fit would be a lot higher and potentially wastefull as your stuff might be ok

My Cars got one of these API engines and it states all over there website and in all the documentation that the high spec engines come without all the ancillaries ect. It does state that the engine is fully prepared to recieve them all though.

Make sure you get them to stamp up the API warranty booklet after they have fitted the engine so your API warranty stays intact.

slightly surprised they dont supply a high spec oil pump though

ahh just read the api site so am not surprised they dont offer a high spec oil pump as they are suppliers not tuners..my mistake

just out of interest mate how much did the replacement unit set you back

i bought a engine for my tt auto from API in 2001 cost £1700 with turbos but was worth it as it was a low mileage engine & was spot on

They've told me that it cost £1500 plus carriage to Ireland. They got the head and block, new gaskets, new cam belt, new valves and pistons, new Nissan cams, new bearings and oil pump. There's a new ptu (series 2), water temp sensor and waterpump on my old engine. I was going to buy the Unorthodox pulley set and the Injen hardpipes to put on it but want to know if I need to replace anything else while they have it out of the car.

It also has a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty on it. I was thinking of getting them to fork out for Kirbz engine :D

Det sensor and harness

Injector insulators

certainly a good idea to do the det sensor.

Where can i get these parts?? would z tech or z centre have them and how much are we talking about money wise???

if thetre incompetent enough to stick 8 litres of oil in your engine, would you realy want them doing the work? id say go elsewhere and get them to foot the bill, esp now theyve admitted liabilty

Agreed!

I have bought loads of engine and not a single re-con engine has ever come with ancillaries.

The area manager has already taken the car to another mechanic. He's just whining that he has to spend time taking bits off mine and refitting them to the new engine!! His complaint is that some of the parts might be aged and that they could break due to their age.. I'm starting to think that he may have just ripped out the old engine and wasn't worrying about damaging it as he thought he was getting a direct replacement!! I haven't seen the car since July!!!!

Merc exchange engines come built up with injectors etc ;) :p

yeh as most merc owners have deep wallets, most 300zx owners are skint :D

Cos merc mechanics wouldn't have the first clue how to install them

why didn't i think off that

certainly a good idea to do the det sensor. My API engine has done 2000ish since fitting and the det sensor is now duff, wish it had been changed while the engine was out, it's now got a resistor in it which I ain't to happy about.

Definitely do the det sensor, when we took the engine out of my old one to swap into my other car it was missing! Quality Ztech work there....

isnt there a relocation of the det sensor mod somewhere which makes it easier to get to if it goes kaput

Yeah nissan put it where it is for a laugh, to be fair I didn't check the glovebox ;) might have forgot to put it on like the JWT ECU that was missing

not like zed mechanics that can take months to work out how to install them :xxx:
