Hi all. I've been having a couple of issues over the last few months that are mainly niggles, since ztech (thankyou) fixed the major bits. My speedo works intermittently (it's not the speed sensor, ztech checked it); it mainly does one of the following 4 things:

Stays at 0.

Stays at 180+

Reads speed between 100 and 160 (when driving normally :) )

Sticks at 60 or 120.

I'm pretty sure that it's just the loom between the speed sensor and the clocks, as it works when it's been dry for a while and also when wiggled a lot.

Additionally, just recently I've noticed that either my fuel consumption has gone mad, or the odometer isn't working. So far I've had 45 miles out of a full tank - it only seems to work now when the speedo is working, but that didn't happen before.

Finally, it's also hesitating quite severely on some occasions (always when the speedo isn't working) - when pressing "go", the car thinks about it and then takes off.

I'm intending to clean the connections etc, but I'm a little worried that I might be doing some damage - I imagine the car thinks it's not moving at all when I'm driving, and wondered how serious that is...

Sorry for the long post, please help !

I have the similar problems with the speedo. I had to get a new speedo cluster.

It may be worth resoldering every joint in the back of the speedo, I did that for someone and it seemed to fix it. Obviously, cleaning all the connections is a good thing to do too.

Cheers. I have thought about getting a new cluster, but I wanted to make sure that it was really that before I bought one; I've removed it and checked for dry joints etc within the cluster already, but I think I'll have another go at that as well as cleaning the connections.

With regard to the other point, do you think driving in the medium-term without any feed from the speed sensor / etc will do any harm ? Was thinking that if there's no feed giving the speed, the ECU may think the car isn't moving. I'm aware there's a different feed to the ECU than the one to the clocks but that's about all I know in this area :)

The speed sensor signal effectively goes 'through' the clocks, or perhaps the clocks are the first drop-off point. Assuming that your speed sensitive steering etc are still working, then I think you can assume that the signal is getting to the ECU and that the problem is in the clocks somewhere.

I have a 300kph speedo and a mph conveter for sale if you feel you want to change it.

It may be worth resoldering every joint in the back of the speedo, I did that for someone and it seemed to fix it.

I did this to mine as I was having problems. It wasn't the mph convertor or the speed sensor. Resoldering EVERYTHING sorted it

Cheers - mine's a UK car so no convertor.

Thanks for the help, I know what I'll be doing over the next few nights :)
