Info for those complaining about Nissan's attitude to imports

It might help to know that Mitsubishi have just announced a recall for Shogun's ('92 to '99). Letters (via DVLA) are going to all UK model owners first and then to all import owners. A replacement steering part and an hour's labour is required - all free of charge, even for import owners.

If Mitsubishi can treat import owners the same as UK owners then why can't Nissan ?

Too right, Hairsy. I used to work for a 2-wheeled importer and have seen this (crap) attitude too often. Mitsubishi are right - look after your customers.

There is no - rpt NO - reason why Nissan Motor GB cannot match this level of service. The more of you who tell them this, the better. And Watchdog, and 5th Gear and..... and call Nissan Rickmansworth. And there's loads of other stuff which could make their life less comfortable (and hence more likely to change their policy of being sh*ts). But I've frothed at the mouth enough for one day.

We've paid for it, we want fair treatment, is all. Don't let the b*stards fob you off.

For example, if they make getting parts more difficult/expensive, and if they hence make keeping a dealer maintenance record more difficult, this directly impacts the value of our cars. Are they going to compensate us for this?

So far, I have been a Mandela service junkie (didn't have your experience) so expect my resale values with FNSH to be above average.

If Nissan Motor GB's idiocy is allowed to stand, my car will become more difficult to sell - so resale goes down.

If a FNSH car falls in value so does a non FNSH car (probably most on this forum at a guess).

Don't let Nissan take your money away - complain, bellyache, write, e-mail until they look after our cars properly - without being arseholes and charging this parts tax.

(oh dear, I've come over all sweaty - can I go for a quick lie down now please?)

I suspect the Mitsu recall is about liability. Faulty steering means accidents and broken people = big $£$ liability. Remember the Firestone(?) tyre problem in the US recently with one of the Ford RV's ....

Agreed Andy - any car company's worst nightmare is a suspect part putting drivers at risk but in Mitsubishi's defence they take out ads in the specialist motoring press saying they will treat owners of FTO, Pajero, Legnum the same as owners of Shogun and Galant etc (funny but they make no mention of GTO hehe) where as Nissan UK treat all import owners like shit.

Cheerz,

Ralph Nader.

AFAIK the same 'no no import discrimination' policy applies to Toymota too. Perhaps we are seeing a Renault policy coming through ?

My dads got a Mitsubishi Galant, its all Jap spec. But as Mitsubishi UK imported it over when new its classed as a UK car.

Work that one out.

Toyota rock! Nissan don't! biggrin.gif

I agree, I still to this day have never, never even seen a Mitsi main dealer! Where are they? LOL biggrin.gif

But being serious, my local Toyota dealer told me they supported Imports, Honda dealers support imports so why is it only bloody Nelson who are persisting in upsetting their customers? I give up! mad.gif

The reason Mitsubishi treat their import owners so differently is that they set up their own import business.

They saw how much cash they were missing out on via specialist importers so you can buy any spec FTO, Pajero etc direct from Mitsubishi UK.

Obviously they then have to support them and therefore also anyone who bought theirs from other sources.

Nissan obviously think it is too much hastle to find the right part numbers.

I don't see why as at my dealer in Leeds anything that is ordered in was always non returnble anyway.

Maybe after all the complaints about dealers not knowing the Z etc maybe they have decided to save embarassment and use higher prices to push us all away to specialists.

The vehicles imported must all be ZX's, Skylines, Pulsars so maybe they don't want to maintain old performance cars?

After all do you know anyone who has a Micra or Primera import?
