EGT Probe

Managed to score some used Nismo gauges, one is an EGT. Does the probe have to be mounted in the manifold or can I stick it in the downpipe?

the closer to the exhaust ports the better, so ideally in the manifold

Thought as much, bugger to get to with the engine in though. Is it possible to do it?

Best place is in the manifold. Trouble is you need to remove the manifold to do it or you'll get bits of swarf in everything - not good for a turbo lol. Another problem with it being in the manifold is that if the probe disintegrates, it will exit through the turbo killing it outright.

Most people put it in the DP these days and just accept the fact that its reading slightly low.... All about trade-offs really...

Was hoping that was the case, don't wanna be pulling that engine again. Just fitted divorced stainless dp's too so piece of piss to take off the pass side & weld a boss on.

Any idea of temp difference between manifold & dp?

Unless you have an aftermarket ECU then there's not much point in reading from both banks. The stock ECU cannot fuel differently for each bank (well it does but only by reading the O2 sensors and not by much). IE you can't tune each bank via the maps with a stock ecu... Make any sense???

ye i understand. is that because its batch fire injectors that work on apposing cylinders?

if your running std ecu i see no point at all. just run with the O2s for diagnostics and tuning.

Stock ecu with a zemulator tho and you're cookin on gas :D

O2s are shit for tuning anyway, need a wideband for any degree of accuracy.

no but yoy could read the banks independantly and if one side was hotter than the other it would indicate a leanness on one side, maybe due to blockes injecttors maybe. At least you would know you had a problem and could sort it before any permanent damage was done.

True but are you going to put a gauge on everything 'just in case'??? ;)

think i need one on my spelling!!! ;)
