iv got 13.5 at bruntingthorp, but im going to santa pod next weekend so might do better then , only had the car a few months when i did that run. is 15.8 good for an na, coz my almera gti nearly standard did it in 15.9?

I don't think 15.8 is brilliant for an NA - like I said it was my first run. But I don't think it was bad to be honest.

An Almera is a lot lighter than a Zed. And times at Santa Pod tend to be 0.2-0.4 seconds higher than runways with grippy concrete - the Pod's all rubbery and slippery.

I went a while ago in my (standard) NA and did a 15.8 on my 1st run.

There was one there today doing simlar times, silver with vented wings?

Tweakie you bugger, i don't think the car likes that 99 ron stuff at all. Waiting till the exhaust goes on then i'm sending it to mick for a tune up then i'll see that 14.989 and take it down by at least .5 of a second :D

That was jim jitsu, not having a good weekend with his na. It's on nitrous but first it blew a hose on saturday (1200psi blowing up under your hood is not fun) and then wouldn't even kick in today for him. Poor lad, really felt for him :(

0.00 due to blown engine and not even making the bloody show!! :smash:

Ivan

I heard about that mate, bit of a bugger when that happens :( Hope we see you back on the road soon!

Hoped it was non turbo, never run my tt, but would like to see a bit faster if i did? Didnt see you run? saw him twice i think? You dont seem to see many 300's putting in good times IMO, perhaps just i have bad timing or go to the wrong events!

Mine's running poorly at the moment matey so getting just under 15 secs from a standard tt is not bad. 14.6 is the stock figure but obviously 16 years of age and 70k on the clock do slow it down. The car's being decatted in a couple of weeks time then i should make some progress time wise once it's been tuned up.

I think the timing is out personally. It doesn't feel right on high octane fuel

I think a couple of forum members Zeds have got close to or run in the 11s in the past. Chunk and at least one other I think.

Chunks new motor is going to be very quck when it gets on the pod. It's on hold for a bit though while he repairs his skyline

Cant remember all the details but I got 12.9 last time I went

12.721 @ 120mph  That was last august on an incredibly slippery pod track lol. When the car was completely stock ran a 14.3 @99mph if thats anything to go by....

i heard people saying at bruntingthorpe that they got .5 secs quicker at pod coz theres more grip. time will tell. iv never seen a Z run a gud time at pod yet, infact iv only seen a handfull, obviously im goin to the wrong events.

will see how i get on this weekend.

Yep mine's buggered, the tps is shagged. I knew before i went it was a bit intermittent but pushed the wires in again today and he flies.

Damn, got to wait till next time to test him out now :( Oh well next time i'll be decatted so i should get a big change in performance when everything's sorted and tuned up :) :hyper:

Best I got was 14.267 on stock boost just decat, exhaust and induction. Santa pod's surface is treated in a sticky substance that suits the drag slicks as it's the only FIA approved drag strip in the UK. Also the 300 is a notouriously (sp?) difficult car to launch without bogging down or spinning away all the power.

Ivan

Might be buggered but I was running pretty serious mods with the 12 sec run ;) As Ivan said the prob with pod is the 'gold dust' they put down on the track - this is great for traction with drag slicks but with normal road tyres it makes the traction a lot worse. Also, yeah, the Z is a bitch of a car to lauch. For a proper drag set up you need solid subframe bushes and at least poly diff bushes - if not solid type. That should sort the old wheel hop out. Also set your shocks to the softest setting ;)

I've heard people say the reverse - perhaps they always use it as an excuse wherever thay are!

SlickPete - you've run on lots of surfaces - what do you think?

For a proper drag set up you need a decent car, you need to bin off them 300 things and get a proper car. Also set your shocks to the softest setting ;)

Well said duffer, top advice!!!!

yeah its hard to get a good launch anywhere tbh.

managed a 13.1 yesterday at pod.

nice to meet ya mr bunny.

Chris.

AdamR ("living the dream" MR2 turbo - come on some of you must remember him??) did a 13.3 (on three cylinders - he claims).

Looks like Black Slag was the fastest 300 on the day.

Well Ill just set it out for those who are unsure.

People like poops and duffer already know.

1 Santa Pod is top quality track designed for serious drag racing. Use the correct tyre and grip is phenomenal, especially on pro shootout or test n tune days.

I simply cant unstick my Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials with the modest NA power of 242 at the fly. The tyres at 275/40-17 will launch a 700hp Camaro with front wheel pick up!

Thats how much grip can be generated by an experienced driver with the correct tyre.

The surface is SMOOTH and polished by constant use and has as mention a spray of traction adhesive(glue) sprayed on before racing starts.

2 Road tyres are just not designed for this surface and are rock hard in comparison. Add in unexperienced driver to the mix... result ... LOADSA WHEELSPIN.

But the drivers blame the track of course.!

Concrete surfaces like Bruntingthorpe and the amateur side of the launch pad at York are much grippier for road tyres cos thats what they are designed to run on.

So its all down to ... what tyre ... what surface ... and what driver.

Thats why you appear to get "conflicting stories".

There not really conflicting at all they are just different peoples experience with different equipment in different locations.

That ok for ya???

ok so pete and bantum keep schtum about how i managed this because you were their and saw it!!! i've grabbed a shot off of the video my misses took so first pic is the zed i was running (professional photo) and the second is a grab from my video and i promise you i have NOT photo shoped this pic.....
