well i ordered a set of springs and o rings today. after a lengthy chat with one of the guys from ztech he advised me to drop a bit of dextron in the car let it tick over for a while and drop oil, he said this may sort out the small rattle i have when the car warms up at around 2500 to 3500 revs, he said it could b a sticky lifter, anyway i put the castrol 10 60 sport edge in. after which the rattlin is still there aarrrrggggghhh :headvswal.

well i,m gonna fit the springs and o rings wen i get them and if that dosnt sort this out then a box of matches just might do the trickk....he he.

also been told to check all idler gears and tensioner while doin the springs.

thoughts? :)

it was always worth a try :)

as for idler bearing and tensioner to replace! cambelt needs to be removed anyway, so for the sake of £40 you may aswell do it, and while your there do the waterpump, as per conversation, if you say the cambelt and tensioner have been done , then just do the vvt spring's and o-rings, just make sure when you undo external plate which holds spring in place you hold some tissue under the sprocket

so oil wont drip on to the belt etc, otherwise it could possibly degrade the belt and cause premature failure down the line, its not a lot anyhow :)

forget the matches im sure its worth more than that, have my z if you want it has no engine and the heads are being rebuilt which has taken 2weeks longer than it should

hope the vvt springs sort it out, just had her round my mates and and hes a good mechanic..after i got there the car was runnin with no rattle....typical. so i took her out for a run and sure enough it came on again, he reckons it sounds like camshaft!! so maybe the springs will help.

i must sy the guys from ztech were very helpfull

disconnect the VTC solenoids (2 plugs, one at the back of engine, one on the side of the engine, near the cruise control actuator)

if the sound is gone or a lot less with the solenoids disconnected, it's the vtc springs.

done that mate, it was a little quieter

I'm having exactly the same noise mate.

I tried uprated VVt springs and the bloody noise still came and went on warm-up.

Now thinking of changing the intake cam sprockets, see if that helps.

let me know how it goes colin, i will be putting post on as soon as ive done springs

Erm you do NOT have to remove the cambelt to change the springs!!! All you need to do is remove enough parts to be able to remove both upper cambelt covers, then undo the 4 bolts on the front of each inner cam sprocket. Be carefull as the spring is pushing against the plate so keep a finger on the front as you undo the final 2. As said, keep a rag underneath as there's oil in the sprocket which will seap out as you remove the plate. Once off, remove old spring and o-ring, replace with new parts. Just be carefull the o-ring is seated correctly when you replace the cover plate :)

who said anything about removing the belt, i said if your replacing the idler or tensioner the cambelt has to be removed ;)

Nice back track there Greg  ;) LMAO

Oh and you still said the Z don't have small ends anyway  Spherical pistons perhaps?  :D:D:D
