On a local road near to my house, this week the following has happend.

Monday drive along in plumbing van, as have done for years, 60mph limit. Not speeding, notice workmen digging in centre of carriageway.

Tuesday, Same route same speed, new 50mph signs and brand new shiney grey box with yellow on the back, now where men had been digging day before. FLASH FLASH. Got the van. B***tards, i thought, didnt see that.

Wednesday, same route, this time at new speed of 50mph, watched loads of cars getting flashed, as they all still think 60mph.

Thursday again same route, this time, the new shiney grey box flashy thing, that was the day before, is now learnng over like a palm tree in a hurricane, and seems to have been visited by Mr Sledge hammer and his best mate petrol. It is totally fooked. Made the front page of the local paper.

A big thankyou to the vandals on this occasion, as anything that was inside is now destroyed. Im not supporting the vandals, as i agree that the cameras work well in certain places, but changing the speed limit and putting a camera in overnight, just aint nice.

lol... i wish they'd visit southampton

Who? The guys who put in the cameras or the ones who take 'em out...

I wouldn't get too excited just yet, the new cameras have all the pictures stored under the ground exactly for this reason.

Chances are you'll still get a ticket :(

I agree, this is totally wrong. Unless the road is an accident blackspot then it's all about revenue, not road safety.

If it were road safety, then they should just have put the 50mph limit in and let people get used to it before adding scameras

I for one am sick of the anti-motoring epidemic that is running rife in our town halls at present. Anyone noticed how the 30/40 limits in villages has been extended miles outside the residential areas lately? OK that may be to slow people down coming into the village. However whilst driving in Italy a couple of years back, I noticed the restirction was only on 1 side of the road - coming into a residential area the lower limit was in place a KM before, yet leaving it, the restriction was lifted earlier allowing you to accelerate away but it was still in place on the opposite carriageway.

Also a load of rural roads near me have had national speed limit cut to 50 or even 40. These roads are nearly always empty any time of day, I've not heard there has been loads of accidents so why????

.......Just to encourage more horse riders or cyclists to use the roads!!! I still use the same roads every day and I still am yet to see either

Fekking mental PC thinking, that's what. Why the feck do we pay road tax???

Oh and if cyclists and horses use the public roads then they too should be forced by law to have 3rd party insurance.......

Rant over

Richard :headvswal

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Why the feck do we pay road tax???

For Mr. Blair and his family to eat cucumber sandwiches & have posh tea...

or maybe a tax disc pierced into their ear

the same happened down the road from me back in Jan - stretch of dual carriageway which has ALWAYS been 60 was reduced to 40!!!! they put up a barely-visible 40 sign and a mobile camera unit was sat in a dark lay-by happily snapping away at every poor git (including me) that thought he was within the law. without a shadow of a doubt - money money money. (oh, and i dont recall a single accident on that stretch of road.... ah, except one. dont ask MickeyB! :o :o )
