Would it be possible to retro-fit UK spec front seatbelts into my JSpec Zed?

Would the mounting points be there already? (as in the pic)

And would the buckle end fit into my seat mounted clip? Or would the UK clip bolt to my seat?

TIA

dont know the answer, but if they do - i know where theres a good set ;)

I've had a good check and although u can retro fit the reel part of the belt there is no thread to fit the top part of it even though there's a hole there! It could be poss to put a nut behind it but it's all covered with ALOT of metal and trying to get a nut up in there will be one big pain in the ass and not worth the hassle in my opinion.

Though you never know, they might have left the thread there! I've only checked on an NA car and my old 91 TT.

Thanks for that W1NG, much appreciated

But I'm still going to check mine just incase, if I get the chance this weekend!

At least I know where to get the bits from now anyway ;)

I found the same on my 91TT. For the fronts, the gaps/holes in the metal were all there, but the threads/strengthened plates weren't. :(

Would it not be possible to use riv-nuts if there is just a small hole the size of the bolt??? or could you weld a small plate over the hole if its big, (you could drill a hole through the plate before you weld it an spot tack a nut on the back of it) the above may or may not work or be possible...just an idea is all  ;)

The problem is that the hole is high up and there is no other hole near the area! The biggest hole where you could try and put a nut up there is where the reel part of the seatbelt is....! You'll need one hell of a bar to get it all the way up there. Beside, all this should be done with the interior attached and the only way to do it if your going to put a nut there yourself is to have the interior off when you bolt it on... after which you can't put your interior back on it as you've just bolted the belt on!

If it was like the rear, where the thread was there, all you would need to do is drill the interior. I would have done it by now myself it that was the case.

You ought to try and get some US spec seatbelts Dave. Really wierd they are, they have 2 recoil mechs per door. One at the bottom where on the JDMs they are hard fixed and the other half way up the door where the normal single recoil mechs are.

quick question... i have 2 J-spec Z's. is there anything wrong with the belts in the doors that i should know about? are the UK ones better in a bump, etc? cheers. si

oh and i think the US ones will have pre-tentioners built in due to US crash regs or something like that?

OK, well I checked mine, and same as above, no threads/nuts. now as this is an extremely high safety point, I would NEVER even consider messing with them in any way at all. If you bodge them, and you have an accident, don't bother claiming, as the insurance company would NEVER pay up (that's if you survived in the first place!!)

OK, thanks for all the input guys, much appreciated.

Nothing wrong with the JSpec ones, except if someone opens the door while you're still strapped in, they strangle you  Other than that, I'm about to fit the three point rears and that's what got me thinking in the first place.

They are if those stupid electronic recoil things go wrong. When eventually I get round to doing it, the bloody things are being torn out.

I do like the location of the seat belts on the early JDMs. Looks 'different' and usually get a 'oh they're cool' remark whenever someone who's not been in a Zed gets in.
