A lorry has just reversed into the front of my car :nono: .

The damage isn't too bad to look at - the bumper seems to just need a respray, both headlights have marks but neither are cracked and the worse bit is the panel between the headlights which is dented and badly scratched.

I think it could be repaired by myself for £100ish but I will be claiming off the lorry drivers company insurance (no chance of a cash in hand deal).

My question is, will the insurance company just write off the car? It's a lovely daily driven N/A LWB import G-plate but only worth about £2-2.5K at a guess.

I'm a bit worried, especially as a lot of insurance companies don't want to sell written off cars back to you anymore

I will try and take a few pics later

Cheers

doubt they'd write it off for that! you've got the car, and they can't just take it off you - get some quotes in from traders on here and take it from there.

doubt it?

if its as you described, there cant be more than £500 worth of work?

Hey mate - sorry to hear that.

It depends how they play it.

The cost of all-new Nissan parts might add up to quite a lot - think what two new headlights would cost for example.... it could add up.

An insurance company may still make you an offer and let you organise the repairs yourself and that could work out well for you.

Hope it all works out ok one way or the other, touch wood!

I bet doing the whole thing at a proper repair shop with new Nissan parts would cost a fortune but if you spoke to the insurance company and said you'd organise repairs yourself and would settle for (say) £1000, they'd bite your hand off.

As you say Craig David there is a huge difference between genuine nissan parts and what we can get hold of second hand.

My old mazda needed a new bumper after being driven in to, I replaced it for £50 but the insurance companies garage estimated £900!!!!!

The cost of 2 headlights, the panel between them and a resprayed bumper could soon add up to most of the cars value. :headvswal

Still worried but thanks for the support guys.

Unfotunatly I've seen insurance companies try and write of a zed for a cracked rear bumper and bent exhaust tip. It all comes down to the cost of genuine nissan parts plus authorised accident repair bodyshop prices.

Insurers often just dont want the hassle, and would rather just pay out.

If there is anyway you can avoid a claim, or buy it back - do that.

The lorry driver wont allow me to avoid a claim (nothing in it for her!), so I guess it's just a waiting game. I'll have to see if 1) they will sell it back to me and 2) if it's worth my while. As i've said it's a fantastic everyday car, in great condition but there seems to be no market for them anymore.

To top it all i'm off travelling a week today until xmas so I have to sort all this from 12,000 miles away!

they cant just take your car without your permission mate, barter with them!
