Has anyone ever replaced their glass with UK spec stuff?

Just wondering if anyone's fitted the nice blue tints to their JDM model? Something I'm thinking about doing some day dependant on how long I keep the thing of course.

I bet new glass costs a fortune!

i was under the impression the colour tints were to do with the car/interior colours? .. my glass is blue tinted and thats JDM .. saphire blue car with blueish alcantara interior

Never heard that before. I thought that JDM glass was bronze and UK glass was blue. I have bronze all round apart from the windscreen as that had to be changed and no JDM glass was available for weeks and the insurance company refused to pay for it anyway! Makes you wonder why you pay more for import insurance really! :mac1:

Why would you go to all the effort of replacing the glass?

I've already stated that...because JDM is brown/bronze and UK is blue

Exactly why does improving a car's looks mean one has to get out more?

Greg had Uk glass fitted to his fronts. Cost about £200 I believe from Autoglass....although chip it and just pay the £50 ins excess instead.

Uk Blue tint looks noticably better than the jap bronze tint...which makes interiors look brown from the outside

I have to say it'd be the decision of a fanatic - too much grief for little change in my book.

1999 spec have factory fitted mirror tint on the rear windows and rear windscreen.

When I had my glass taken out before the car was resprayed, I called Autoglass and told them it cracked whilst taking it out; "No problem, where's the car we'll come and replace it!?" was the response. So like Legrath said, just claim on your insurance - for the windscreen at least :)

ill meet you half way if you want mine. need to get rid of the shell soon, but can pinch a screen knife from work. can do front and rear quarter glass. ( would like to keep the door glass with the doors, but for the right price will split ;)

**having said that - i dont know why im offering as claiming on the insurance will be a hell of a lot cheaper!!!***

I know, but I've looked at hundreds of Z's over the years and can't say I've EVER noticed what tint is fitted...

and i've got blue tints on my Jap spec

I cracked my windscreen a few years back and they turned up with a blue uk tint for my JDM. Fook me it stood out a mile against the rest of the glass in the car. They took it back and i had to wait a week for bronze.

Certainly does. Having the interior look a lighter colour rather than the dowdy brown that the JDM bronze exubes makes a nice difference, modernising it. For the costs of all the seals and stuff, it's not something I'm going to do for a long while yet.
