Just done 110miles to work and went through £20 worth of V-Power @ 97.9p a litre, during traffic jams I put the autobox into N and noticed my revs are at 1300 - 1400rpm.

I remember reading somewhere on here that it should be about 750rpm - is this right?

Also at the same time as noticing the revs being high I was shocked to see my Oil Pressure guage reading almost zero! again I remember reading somewhere that other people reported the same reading and that it might just be the pressure guage itself but mine does read around 60psi when started from cold but drops away to the first marking on the guage when reaching normal operating temperature.

Would any of you budding enthusiasts be able to advise me please as I am now worried to death almost!

Cheers - Pete UK TT Auto

disconnect the temp senser to the ecu (yellow one) try cleaning the connectors you might find that its gunged up with the dreeded green stuff.

this sorted my idle problem out.

sock oil pressure gauge isnt very reliable, all the zeds i've had have done the same, if i switch engine off then start it the needle goes back to where it should be, bit annoying, after market gauge well worth the few extra quid at least it will give you a more accurate reading

Thanks for the info you guys, will check the tinternet for a new guage and have a look at the yellow connector in my lunch break.

Much appreiciated.

Just been out to move the car and now its cutting out when selecting a gear from Park, had a quick look at the oil levels and all is well, looked at the yellow plug from the temp sensor and although the metal clip is missing it still functions ok - I pulled the plug off and the fan came on, put plug back and fan went off.

Getting quite concerned now as over 100 miles from home!

Cant find any threads on here with the same issue, has anybody seen this before and found the cause of the problem?

cutting out just dying electricly, or stalling like you dont know how to use a clutch?

Does it only die what you put it in drive?

What happens is when you put it in any gear from Park the revs drop to almost nil and theres a rapid clicking noise of a relay from behind/under the drivers side dash - when this does happen which is only now and then as of yesterday the engine will almost definatly stall unless i give a bit of throttle - once it did recover on its own and was fine untill i came to start it up again today.

I spoke to Luke from ZCenter who chatted to me for a wile about various different things that it could be and he eventually put me onto a Jeff from another well know company(forgot the name just now), Jeff mentioned about vacuum leaks and electrical connectors and is sending me a compiled list of things to check - must say here that both guys where helpfull beyond question.

I will post back here tommorow after i have done another 110 miles to work and had a look at this info and done some checks.

In the mean time I thank all for reading my post and giving me advice.

catch you later ... Pete

Sounds like a bad connection to the FICD (Fast Idle Control Valve). Check the "Engine by numbers" thread in the FAQ section to locate this. You're looking for a grey connector at the rear passenger side of the intake...

ive got a similiar problem with mine. its fine until it gets hot then it sometimes stalls when you stop suddenly or go from drive to reverse. always starts fine after. i think its a vacuum leak with mine but there sounds so many things it can be. ill keep watching this as it might help me.good luck bud with finding your problem.

yeah does sound similar to me but mines happening only when cold, I do think its down to a vacuum pipe or a dodgy connector somewhere on the engine because when mine reaches normal temperature its all ok. (metal expansion/valves closing or opening when hot = missing vacuum) and of course the connectors being metal.

Having said that, i got in the car this morning and was expecting a struggle to get it going but all was good - started up with the usual auto rev to 1300rpm then it dropped to 900ish - put the car into reverse and it sank the revs to 800ish, took my foot off the brake and started my journey out of the driveway and down south. Got to where i work and when i needed to reverse it into a bay it went straight into gear no problem???

I am going to take mine to this guy Jeff i mentioned as he is only a few miles from where i work and he sounds the type to show me whats what whilst he has the car in so I will eventually follow this up with another reply on here for you yamr6 and anyone else who might be following this.

thanks again to you all, info is money saved!
