How many people on here have either one of these chips? whats the difference between the two, which gives better performance?

 

Also have many people got Mines chips and what performance gains can be had from these chips

Everybody knows Harry Ramsden makes the best chips. Had some in my car last night and they made it go really really fast. Did a dyno test that I mocked up in my garage and recorded 800 GWP (green wally power).

 

I tried McCains but they made my belly detonate all night.

 

I feel left out because I've only got the Nelson chip and you lot are all going on about chips and it's not fair. Wait til I get a chip, and you know i'm gonna get a big one, a big fat one, the biggest one in the world, you won't be able to shut me up then. I'm gonna post on every thread and brag about my chip, chips with everything, you just wait you lot.

Put it this way.

I had a JWT for a year and when I fitted it I thought it was so smooth and responsive and the extra power is superb. I was well impressed.

When I tried the SE chip it turned my Z into a crazed monster - revs higher, quicker, sounds more raw (not as smooth) but the Z seems way more powerful than it did with the JWT.

The auto box seems to kick down better and actually revs to the red line which the JWT never did unless held in gear manually.

At the end of the day I have both and it's the SE which is in my Z and not the JWT.

Enough said.

I cannot comment on jwt cos i bought a se chip but although everyone on here seems to love the se chip fitted to there car, mine seems to be crap.It is an of the shelf one made for tt with exhaust and air filter change and hybrid turbos.

Have had to take back first week i got it cos it was detonating, but still detonates so have had to lower boost levels to about 11psi and change timing very slightly to stop it.

Will be thinking of changing it this year.

Whilst you lot are all fighting the crapola out of each other at billingham - I am going to creep around all your Zeds and put bananas up the exhaust pipes and spike you all with Benzos.

I am so far happy with my SE chip (Z32) (off the shelf), running 15psi boost. However I have no experience of other chips (other than standard which SE was an improvement on). My 200sx(S13) chip from SE is dubios and I have gone back to standard for now as my S13 has only a basic boost upgrade and I only got the chip to clear the fuel cut. I have a few issues with my S13 to resolve first before going back to Pete with a proper report (not too bothered I got the chip for free).

 

My personal opinion is find someone who can stick the car on the rollers and configure the chip for your car. Make sure they have all the knowhow on diagnosing Z32 quirks. If you have a high miler, there could be another problem that only makes itself evident only after an upgrade therefore limiting power or prematuly causing detonation.

Boy, mention SE and you are guaranteed looong threads.

I had JWT it was good. Now have SE which is much better, faster,smoother, revvier.. My SE chip is not tuned individually to my car, but a std chip suitable for the mods i've got. Individual tuning is an option.

 

Bottom line is you can not look at any tuning mod incl a chip, in isolation. SE have also changed my timing for example.

 

If it were my money I'd go with SE. But u should go there, don't do it by mail.

Why did they change the timing? To get extra power or to avoid detonation?

 

I would think to retard the timing to avoide detting, then the car runs like a pig off boost?

 

Will never forget the SE open day when Pete is trying to give us a demo of what his chip does and we are all standing there and he says things like "well this map we dont know what it is but we will figure it out"???? lol fills you with confidence.

First of all i would like to thank everyone for their replies/opinions, I had no idea I would get this many replies.

 

After reading all the replies I am more confused now than before, I think I'll leave the chip alone for the time being and get some other modifications instead.

Aki the poor guy - asks a question and coz certain people feel so inadequet they cannot let impartial advice lay - He ends up being more confused than he was in the first place.

 

So to Kill this debate once and for all :

 

AKi - There is very little to pick between the two chip manufactures that you mentioned - I have one and i know people whos opinion i respect have the other - Both parties are very happy with there chips.

 

So The ball is in your court - im sure whereever you spend the money you will get a good ECU - Dont bother looking elsewhere as the ECU is the best MOD you will get for the Z once you have the Intake and Exhuast done.
