Musicals suck! It's not the worst, that prize goes to 'The Sound of Music'.

Come on Si - only the other day you were telling me you thought Oliver Reid's performance in 'Oliver' lit up the screen in a way that hasn't been seen since. You said he had a brooding menace combined with a powerful sexual chemistry. And you were singing all the songs.

YES! no arguements there mate.

Although I would deffo give that Julie andrews one back then. :nono:

I can never understand why that thing won 9 Oscars or whatever it was. Musicals don't really get released anymore thank fook, if they do, they're imed directly at children rather than 'the family'.

I did have a term for such forms of entertainment 'utra-cheese' was the phrase I used.

Oliver wasn't cheesy (all the way through anyway).

Chitty Chitty BB had some sinister moments.

My Fair Lady was full of cutting social observation.

I've never seen The Sound of Music but wasn't there an undercurrent of Naziism or something?

Plus you can't beat a good old sing-song!

Not much like them these days - Moulin Rouge I guess and lots of Disney / similar animations.

lol @ the mandatory negative comment from funkysi!

cant really remember much from CCBB, havnt seen its since childhood. Although i wouldnt particularly choose to watch a musical over anything else, i dont see anything wrong with them as such , and they seem to provide good family entertainment.

If this is going to turn into a conversation about which actress from yesteryear we'd like to bone, then I'd put Britt Ekland at the top of my list EVERY time.

If anyone's seen her role in the original (and best) Get Carter, then they'll agree what a little fooking minx she is (jumps on a table and rubs thighs with fingers in a very Vic Reeves manner).

She was also a Goddess as a Bond girl...

You are a deeply disturbed person mate ... you NEED help ... musicals FFS .. :smash: :p

Saying that Oliver wasn't too bad .. The one with Oliver Reid in of course :-)

Must admit, the thought of Elizabeth Taylor and Liza Minelli in a sandwich, just now, at their time of life, does interest me a little !! :p
