If you are pulling away from traffic lights with two lanes, and then there is a bollard on one side and the kerb is extended out on the other (like a traffic calming feature), narrowing the two lanes to one, who has the right of way?? Cos some bitch has just driven right into me, and pushed me onto the bollard!

Not sure where I stand?

you stand on the pavement.........

wasnt there any signs on the approach to the lights showing who has right of way>?

hard to imagine from the describtion you gave mate

i would say as we drive on the left, the left would have the right of way? But was there arrows on both lanes pointing ahead? or an arrow painted on left lane telling drivers to go over to the right? If there is and the outside lane is unobstructed then i guess your lane coz the inside would be coming onto your lane, its only a guess tho as she should of stopped to let you pass as her lane is obstructed as if it was a parked car.

Typical woman driver dont give way dont indicate and think mirrors are just to check their make up!!

write all the details down to give to your insurence with a detailed picture let them fight it out im assuming you got her insurence details or her registration if she drove off. I would say you have a good case as she drove into your path.

Yet another woman causes another accident, ban em all!

trouble with person on left has right of way, is that they are BOTH on the left aint they????

there should have been a sign or road markings mate.

i hope your ok, and the car is not too bad.

did you call the police? what did they say

  • Author
can you draw it ?

hope damage not too bad bud...were you in the zed ?

Yes it was the Zed, all one side scraped and front wing not very nice now! Got to check it all again in the morning.

One of my Nismo alloys is slightly damaged where she pushed me onto bollard kerb, and brand new Toyo is knackered on that wheel.

We're ok, had my little 11y/o daughter in front with me. The woman wouldn't give me her details, so took her number and went home, little while later the police knock at my door. The womans has told them that I bashed on her windows with my fists, which was a total LIE. The police woman was really stroppy with me, and said that she had the right of way, which I just can't agree with. Even if she did, does that give her the right to bash me right off the road? She was behind me, I thought she was letting me through, I was just about to go through the narrow part, when she suddenly accelerated hard and just tried to push her way through the gap which was big enough for only one car! She went right over the kerb where it juts out, and unfortunately scraped all along my Zed in the process and pushed me onto the bollard island so that my front wheel bashed up onto it.

fooking whore!

Thats just typical of a woman always have to say we use violence, and a typical wpc who is proberbly a lesbian anyway automaticly takes a womens side, hope you told the filth she done a hit and run and refused to give her details which i think is illigal anyway

Bad luck bud, hope you get it sorted, at least you and your daughter ok thats main thing you can always repair a car

I would have thought that if you were in front then you had the right of way. If she was behind and then accelerated up your inside then she was undertaking, which she shouldn't do either. :slap:

And yes, refusing to give her details is an offence too, but if she's claiming that you bashed on her window, she'll presumably claim that that's why she refused to give her details. :headvswal

In my opinion, a lot of the fault lies with the idiots that put pavement buildouts and all the other traffic 'calming' crap all over the roads in the first place. :xxx:

The rules in The Highway Code do not give you the right of way in any circumstance, but they advise you when you should give way to others. Always give way if it can help to avoid an accident.

you could try and see if there is any cctv filming that part of the road, dont know how you would go about getting it tho unless the police could get hold of it which i doubt they would bother, think its gonna be in the hands of the insurence companies to fight it out and they will proberbly call it a fifty, fifty. you could take out a civil claim on her, expensive tho

I see you are from Redhill, so you would probably know the road, it is the bit going into Coulsdon on the A23. Just after the road works coming from Redhill, you go under the railway bridge round the roundabout and there is a set of lights where you can either go left or straight on towards Purley/Croydon. It was just the other side of those lights, just past the pet shop opposite the ATS tyre place!

Yeh you are totally right bud, I have had a few run ins with women drivers before. Twice they have driven right into me, both times weren't even looking and were half asleep, both times ended up being MY fault!!! One time I was driving along on my side of the road, and this woman on the opposite side of the road (coming in the other direction) was turning to her right across my lane to enter a library car park, she just turned straight into the front of my van even though she could/should have seen me coming from miles away! Believe it or not, I was told it was my fault, she apparently had an "eye witness", turned out to be someone she knew. Yeh, the policewoman was almost certainly a lesbian, she was your typical "anti-bloke" type!! She said I had an attitude (maybe she expected me to be really happy that this maniac woman with a REAL attitude problem had just nearly killed myself and my young child and damaged my pride and joy), and was threatening all sorts of things to arrest ME!

This woman "driver" was just determined that I wouldn't get through the gap before her, and was prepared to drive me right off the road to try to make sure I didn't! What was her problem, it only meant that she was a couple of seconds behind me instead of in front, it wasn't even important!?! She was really stuck up as well, she just sat there with her nose in the air, not even so much as a "is your little girl ok". She MUST have seen my little girl as she was driving into the side of my car right where she was sat.

People like that piss me off SOOOOOOOOOO much!

Just realised I could have another problem now, I don't think I told my insurance about my Apexi boost/fuel controllers! Will they be funny about that?? I told them I had modified exhaust and air induction, I did tell them I had extra gauges etc, but not specifically about the Apexis. Wasn't really sure what I had to "declare", this is my first motor modified in any way.

She cannot refuse to give you her details bud....if she drove off then she left the scene of the accident...

Keep death off the roads...ban women drivers cos they are all SHITE!!!!

She didn't drive off, she just locked herself in her car and wouldn't talk or anything!! She wouldn't take my details or give me hers. In hindsight, I suppose she had phoned the police and was waiting for them to arrive.

My second point still stands tho...get them back in the kitchen!!!!

Really need answers to this question guys, coz got to phone insurance soon and report etc!

Don't know whether to just leave it and hope they don't know what they are, or tell them I fitted them today or something!!

Theorectically right hand would merge into left unless markings show otherwise but it would also depend who was furthest forward at impact.

Ultimately police won't investigate a damage only collosion unless there are obvious driving offences and then they would need independant witnesses. I would guess insurance would result it 50-50.

Just be wary that she is pushing the public order side so I would push the fail to stop (refusing details)

It's unlikely they will assess the car as it's not a wriite off so you shouldn't have a problem.

What would you advise about repairs, coz I have used insurers "approved" repairers before with other cars, and had loads of problems, they are shit!! They don't bother about quality or anything. Trouble is, if you want to use your own repairers, they then want estimates and check your car over etc. Also this way, it takes a lot longer to get the work done, coz they have to approve the repairer etc.

If I need a new front wing, they will probably say I have to use some crappy pattern part coz it's cheaper, and I won't have that, I want a genuine Nissan part!

What do you lot advise about this?

By the way, thanks for all the help etc so far guys.

I'm a bit confused about the roads up there. I don't go that way much and they're done a huge amount of work to the roads (not necessarily for the better). Give me an hour or so and I'll drive up there and have a look.

And as far as the controllers are concerned, yes you should have declared them, or at least the boost controller. A lot of insurance companies refuse to insure any cars that are chipped or have the boost turned up, so you have to be careful. I'm not sure if I'd declare them at this point though.

Well I went and had a look and it's a bit of a tricky one. There are 2 lanes at the lights, but no lane markings at all on the other side of the junction. Once over the junction, on the left hand side there are bays marked out for parking but there's still plenty of space between those and the central island for 2 cars.

Unfortunately it then starts to taper slightly and about 30 yards further on there's another central island and a pavement buildout so it's definitely only 1 lane. The problem is that the road just narrows leading up to it - neither 'lane' (still no road markings, which is amazing considering the amount of white paint they've used everywhere else in Coulsdon!) disappears, they just sort of merge. The usual way of doing things would be just to take turns. I can't really see how you would be expected to brake and let her undertake you though.

And I'm not sure how the police woman can say that the woman definitely had priority. There's just nothing to suggest that at all.

It's generally pretty busy around there. How fast were you going?

Typically give way to the right in this country unless otherwise directed.

I went down and had another look myself, is your zed red, coz I saw one go up and down a couple of times. I was walking around in a grey T-shirt and three quarter "Lonsdale" pants.

I would say looking at it now, that there is NOT enough room for two cars, it is a single lane after the second set of lights. There is no way there is enough room for another car to be on the side where the parking bays are up to where the pavement buildup and bollards are! She was trying to sneek up that side, she was further back near my left rear wing, and then suddenly accelerated hard to undertake me and basically turned into me, shunted me out of her way and raced between them! How can that possibly be in any way my fault!?! I was exactly where I was supposed to be, and in the only lane there is at that point, the only place there is 2 lanes and room for 2 cars side by side, is actually at the traffic lights! There are NO signs regarding traffic flow, whatsoever, anywhere there. I had already had to move over a bit so that she didn't hit my arse end, because she was trying to squeeze up on the left side where there clearly is not room.
