Raced a DB9 yesterday and took my clutch with it (i think)

Was on my way back from central London and was coming north on the A41 Watford Way (finchely to hendon) when suddenly a 55 plate Black DB9 decided to undercut me and start a bit of a edge on by revving up his engine at the next set of lights......

So i took the bait stupidly and as the first and second lanes were already occupied i had to sit behind him......... To cut a long story short he slightly pulled away off the lights and i would say it was hard to keep up with him but the distance between me and him wasint that much.........maybe two car lengths..........

Anyway i thought theres no way im gonna be able to take him on sitting behind him so i decided a bit of weaving in and out racing might get the better of him and behold it did and now i was in front of him..........he pulled up behind me and start flashing me so i got myself ready and very surprisingly i made a very good launch off the lights and he was struggling to keep up..........we eventually came to another set of lights and he pulled up and rolled his window down and comes out with the comment "there quick little things aren't they" :nana2:

We then had a breif talk about bhp etc etc lol and he asked me how much i paid etc etc...........generally a nice bloke.........he then went on his merry way and so did i............because i felt rather happy with myself  i decided to try and give it some more welly as i was driving along..........as i drop down from fourth to third and accelarated hard the revs rose through but the car didnt actually pull like it actually would...........has to be my clutch...........what else could it be

Anyway as they say with all the pleasure comes major pain (financially in my opinion)

Sounds clutch.

Put it in a high gear at low speed and put your foot to the floor. If rpm rises and car doesnt accelerate, its your clutch.

Ill go try that later on today

What power are you running mate?at least the clutch died doing what it loves! Good on the DB9 bloke for being a good sport about it all as well.

Iv only got an exhaust and apexi filter.........but the car has hit 60,000miles and i think its the original clutch.........time for an upgrade i think

The DB9 would have most likely had me in a straight line side by side

Roll on nitrous and a new clutch LOL

Don't the gearboxes fall out of DB9s?! lol, nice cars though. Why don't you get a good boost controller before looking at NOS? prob more value for money and a bit of a better choice to start tuning? Nos will probably show up more weaknesses in the state of tune whereas with a boost controller you can do it gradually as you inprove other parts.

By the way I really like yellow these days, never would have considered it before.

could be oil contamination ! is the bottom of the bellhousing wet from oil ?

I have no idea what any of that meant............ whats a bellhousing?

I just had her serviced recently and she runs beautifully so i dont think it could be to do with oil

Stock boost ? Up the boost after clutch fitted rather than going for nitrous just yet. Transforms the performance.

Bellhousing is the front housing of the gearbox where it mounts to the engine. The rear main seal is a common failure and allows oil from the engine to get onto the clutch.

There original tubs so dont wanna wear them out alot quicker by upping the boost..........am gonna replace them but need to save money for a good set up so wanna try and preserve them.......

How would i find out if it is the bellhousing thing?

Presumably its the same on a manual but I know the auto has a drain hole on the bottom of the bell housing, you'll see oil dripping from here.

If you had been giving the clutch some stick it might have faded a wee bit, after all they are the same a pads but without the advantage of cooling airflow.

That's a really nice looking motor m8....

The spec on my car is: Powerflow custom made exhaust, Blitz dump valves, Blitz turbo timer, Iridium spark plugs, light weight under drive pulley, Apexi air filter and lowered adjustable suspension.

The exhaust is very loud, light weight under drive pulley makes a different's do you have this mod? I think a chip is the next step for me. At the moment the cars up there with most of the fast cars out their.

Your gonna laugh but all iv got is an Apexi Filter and straight through exhaust.......but hopefully in the near future im gonna be looking at getting some nitrous fitted and a few other mild mods.......wanna keep a reliable engine to be honest and the nitrous is only gonna be for special occasions

I think a chip would be the best next mod..........you need to speak to john dixon for that........iv heard very good things about him

wanna keep a reliable engine to be honest

I'm not going too mad with mods on my car for the same reason.
