oil everywhere!

hi everyone

1st message, new member!

noticed oil coming out of area below cambelt covers. suspect it could be by crank pulley. havent stripped it down yet just looking for a bit of advice. could a oil seal have blown due to high oil pressure due to blocked psv valves

i noticed white smoke coming out of my passenger zorst. abit comes out when you first accelerate on start up. it then happens when you boot it. but only a little.

car is an import. 1990.if its worth replacing psv valves wheres the best place to go. also are uk spec oil seals the same as j spec. wheres the best place to get them QUICK!

be gentle on me!!!!

try mjp auto in the traders section on the pcv valves.. Its quite possible they will be blocked, if they havent been changed, especially on a 1990..From my limited knowledge, these valves release crankcase pressure...so replacing them would help anyway..

Does it do it if you pull the dipstick out SLIGHTLY (just enough to release the crank gases...

normal pressure build up is due to to much oil added to engine

or as you say a clogged pcv systym, resulting in pressure build up and it needs to come out somewhere so unfortunatly it chooses seals, most common one to fail is the rear main oil seal, to check if its the oil seal to the front crank, jack up front and check under lip of oil pump, if its dripping from there then you can almost guarantee its coming from there

or camshaft oil seals, especiaily if it leaks between the cam covers, cambelt of to remove all seals in crank/camshafts.

rear seal is either engine or gearbox out

check valves on either side of plenum, when they fail they normally fail in the closed position once pressed open they dont return, and a build up is forced back in to the intake, and as andy says check your dipstick is not being pushed out under boost or hard driving
