As above really.

If, say for instance, I was taking a TT engine and auto box from an Import, and transplanting it into something else, could I be able to get it to run ok ?

Would it still need the ECU ? the PTU, the CAS ??

How would the timing, injectors work ??

Can the ECU be used and modified, or is this beyond normal boundaries ??

Just an idea thats floating around in my head at the moment, but a serious one at that !

Can do what I am thinking of with a normal carb set up, but looking at something a bit more, kinda different.

dont see why not, just need the ecu, use the existing loom or make your own. And yes, you will need all the gizmo's attached.

YES bud it will ,,,BUT it's a lot of work.... :headvswal

if your good with the tool's (not to bad)...

what shell are you thinking of putting the TT lump in ......?????

So,

If I managed to find a schematic for the loom, showing where it all goes to and where it comes from, I could in theory, utilise the bits I need and by-pass or disconnect the bits I dont ??

Leccy is not my strong point you see, my discipline is in other areas.

Alan....

we have run a zed lump on a stand with ignition, exshust and petrol and it work's (did it to run a engine-in )......

..

Just a thought,

Would I need the ECU for the g/box as well ??

Alan.........

bud an AUTO box is a nightmare..go for manual...it's easyer...

An auto would be more suitable for what I have in mind.

Is the Zed auto all leccy controled, or can I by-pass this ??

My original plans for this was a small block Chevy with the 700r4 auto.

This box allows leccy lock up in top gear, (overdrive if you like) by means of a manual switch.

The engine is available in either carb set up, TPI, or TBI, configurations.

I am familiar with the systems on these yanks, but the Zed is a wee bit more advanced.

Just thinking out loud really !

Alan......

yep autobox will go on too no problem, just need the gearbox ecu too. You will want to use the same circumference rear tyres on as a zed too, failing that you would need to mod the speed sensor to adjust, otherwise the gearbox won't like it.

have a look in the manual on ZED 32 gearbox's and you will see what i mean....there a F**King nightmare ,,,but i like what your thinking ....

Ah,

See my 1st problem then.

How and what mod`s would I have to do to the speed sensor ??

Much larger tyres going on.

Alan.......

Speed sensor? The gearbox has its own speed sensor! Don't matter what wheels and tyres you use, the ecu has no idea of wheel speed, only prop speed....

Does the speed sensor go through the Engine ECU and the G/box ECU ?

Or just the one ?? If so, which one ?

Alan......

Oh come on......

Big delay lol.

Both the Auto ecu and the engine ecu use speed, its taken from the output shaft of the gearbox. Engine ecu uses speed for speed limiter and poss high gear maps (not sure). Auto ecu uses speed to determine best gear etc...

Oh come on......

Dont take the piss !! Only asking !

I would reckon the g/box one, but on 1 of the Zeds I had, the speed sensor was faulty, intermittent heavy steering etc

Also, and only seeking advice here,

Would the engine ECU, overule the g/box one ? at certain times.

15x15, hopefully Convo-Pros with 15x31/18.5 Mickey Thompson`s.

Alan...

Wasn't aimed at you bud ;)

the bigger the wheel the smaller the tyre(lowprofile)...

i.e. 16in wheel with tyre same as 19in with low profile..so me think you are ok ..?????

..

It Doesn't Matter!!!!!

No sweat Andy !

Am a coachbuilder by trade, and Mapping, ECU`s is not my thing mate.

Dont know a lot about it, but aint afraid to ask !

To be honest, would probably get somebody to oversee this bit for me, I know what I am good at, and it aint that kinda stuff.

I have in my possesion, a Jaguar IRS unit, shortened by 6",

A small block Chevy and auto box, a very skilled retired gent who can make me up the forks and spindles for the front.

Yeah, a Trike !!

Most of the biggies have a V8 of some sort, Rover Chevy etc.

Was thinking of a Zed TT. Got an acc dam import here, so got most of the parts I need. Just really unsure of the Leccy side of things.

Dont think I have ever seen a Zed Trike.

Making up the frame is a wee bit of a challenge, but prety sure I can work my way around it. Got to be sure before I start, as I want to make the engine block part of the stressed member, with coolant flowing through the frame tubes. Just humour me, eh ?

Alan.......

TBH I can't see it being majorly difficult. The main EFI loom only has about 7/8 external connections, most of which won't be necessary. Find the power feeds and you're pretty much there. If you need help with that then just ask me, sounds like an interesting project to me! As far as the auto box is concerned, I can't see that being too much of a job either, although having never replaced an auto ecu loom I couldn't say. Either way it shouldn't be too difficult ;)

The acc dam import I have had 2 new tubs and a re-con box fitted about 700 miles before it was written off, so I know it was in great condition.. Damage wasnt too bad, as it was sitting parked and a car ran into it !

Currently running an old C4 Vette myself, and looking for summit a wee bit different. Even prepared to go without for a year or so to get this a reality.

Got my hands on a top class TIG Welder and a heavy duty pipe bender, so with a wee bit of fore thought and planning, this could be a plan !

Alan......
