Hi there,

When I bought my Z it had been fitted with a Sony head unit, presumably in the UK when was imported. I've just bought a JVC DVD head unit, and went to fit it yesterday to find the following...

Instead of wiring the cables from the car into an ISO block, whoever fitted it wired straight into a Sony connector, which is no use for my new JVC unit! Does anyone know if there is an adapter to plug from the Sony connector to an ISO so I can plug that straight into the ISO connector on the JVC head unit? Or should I get the wires from the car rewired into an ISO block? If that's the case it'll be a trip to a car audio place I reckon...

Cheers,

Christian

you should be able to get a short adaptor harness - pretty sure halfords do them. Otherwise, it's straighforward enough to wire it in directly - just search on here for the wiring colours (or they'll be in the online manual).

Hi flardboy,

Did you get the JVC DVD head unit with the 3.5 LCD screen? I got mine from Halfords with an adaptor to go from the original Z loom to the headunit - Took around 30 mins to fit after unscrewing the original metal mounting brackets. I think you may be best getting yours re-wired to an iso or maybe an original Z plug fitting - then just grab an ISO adaptor and plug and play!!!!

It's on here somewhere, but I can't find it, so attached is the wiring diag I did a while ago.

**Disclaimer** This is not an exhaustive diagram, so ALWAYS check your work BEFORE connecting to the battery***

Sorry to hijack, but is the adaptor from Halfords the same for UK and Jap spec cars? Or is there a different one for Jap cars.

Not sure about the UK spec one - I just told the guy I needed the ISO adaptor for my 300ZX Jap spec and he looked it up on the computer - they should list the UK spec one too but I can't say if it's the same as the Jap spec - cost me £13.95 and made fitting the head unit a breeze. Well worth the dosh.......

the rear speakers will run of a amp in the boot on the factory set up, so unless somone has run a new set of wires to the rear speakers ur stereo will only have the front speakers working with an iso plug.

AFAIK, the Bose individual powered speakers was an option (maybe standard fit in the US, not sure) and most Zeds came with standard type rear (and front) speakers, ie; two wires only, and not the four wire powered set-up.
