Hi,

Need to get a new sofa and just wondered if anyone has a leather sofa and a dog and if so, how does the leather hold up to a dog getting on it?

Cheers

Vijay

got a cream leather suit and the german shepherds been trained not to get on it otherwise it wont last you very long with claws

we have 2 leather suits and 2 boxers, and we have no problems.

teach them from young to not claw it and you will be fine mate

Had a Cream leather suite for a few years, no problems from the dog as he's not allowed on them...but the cats were a nightmare when kittens...considering using them to reskin the parts they claw damaged !!

lovely, just want I wanted to hear. Couldn't stop her from getting on the sofa, it's her home too :)

we have a leather sofa and it seems to be the best if you have dogs (albeit the only one allowed on the sofa is small) - hair vacuums up far easier than a fabric sofa and a damp cloth sorts out any muddy paw-marks.

much better than fabric sofa for the hairs

I have a real soft spot for German Shepherds, this my Kassy :)

whats ya favourite mate? got a japanese akita aswell

weve got a japanese akita.mad, mad ,mad it is and a leather suite but it goes no where near it coz hes the size of a rottweiler and we would never all fit on.really want a huskie or a malamute. what they like bud.

total nightmare mate. the most untrainable dog ever. chews everything. It has an anti social behaviour order (ASBO) from the police because it escaped and ate 2 of my neighbours rabbits. but he is excellent with the bairn and lush looking dog attachment.php?attachmentid=26264&stc=1

Now thats what I call a dog.

Cant agree more about Huskys Ive got a Husky/Malamute cross(allegedly, wife thinks hes got wolf in him) but hes destroyed 2 fabric suites and killed a dozen or so birds but has done no damage to the leather suite, the only thing with the leather suite is that if the dog is on it on a regular basis feed the suite as the heat from it may crack the leather over a long period

my akita is half wolf half husky and it was destructive as a pup coz it chewed all the door frames but it grew out of that luckily.the thing with them is they seem great with people unless u have children that the dog has grown up with. it treats them like one of pack so when cousin johnny comes along and manhandles the kids the akitas instincts set in and can become dangerous. ive witnessed this first hand and is a trait with this breed . so be aware if u want one.but otherwise superb dogs. they use them in japan for fighting comps against black bears so that says it all.

they did, but they would pull the claws and teeth out of the bear first and it would be chained to a post, and they would be anything up to 6 very powerful dogs on it, not my idea of sport. a very unpredictable dog.

ooh and my staff also has bolixed a couple of leather sofas. :slap:

if your dog is half husky and half wolf then it aint an akita. this is my 3rd akita. fantastic dogs. very loyal and very very protective. i know this will sound nasty but ive hit mine with a metal bar. when he was 6 months if you put your hand by his food bowl he would bite you, if he was on the settee and you wanted him off you had no chance. but now they are really well behaved. they also use them in japan for babysitting. my daughter who is nearly 2 jumps all over them. pulls their tails, pokes there eyes and they dont even move. if i was to do that they would bite me

thats what akitas are bud . its quite a new breed. they bred a wolf and a husky and came up with an akita for bear fighting sports.other than that you pretty much shadowed what we have said.great dog and very protective over there own human family.dont agree with metal bar tho, seems a bit extreme.
