Whats this goo from the rear of my car. I have also noticed that both of my tyres are waring on the inside more than the outside. Could this be why?

Any idea what it is?

Any help please

Looks like leaking silicone from a subframe bush to me, or is it ATF from the HICAS hydraulics?

This is only a guess wink.gif

I am suffering inner edge tyre wear too. I got a full steering geometry check done and found that both front and rear camber was 2+ degrees out. I am having some plates made up to fit between the upper link arm and the body to rectify it.

JN - what kind of place can do the sort of check you describe? Mandela or ?

What was the aproximate cost of this then?

Many tyre places can do tracking chekcs but only a few have the equipment and specifications to be able to do full steering geometry checks. The one I was recommended was Jeff Fowkes Wheels & Tyres in Ibstock, Leicestershire. (Cost = £70)

Most tyre places I spoke to said sorry don't do camber/caster/toe just tracking, some said yes but when I told them the car they said sorry. Took a while to find one that could handle it but probably the best bet is contacting a big body shop that deals with restorations or major crash damage as that would require a jig and they would want to have the steering fully checked out for insurance purposes to ensure the vehicle is safe after a rebuild. They should be able to recommend a local place that does it for them.

I found a site on the web that advertised a kit for Z32s ($100 www.300degree.com/hard_parts/camberkit)

to rectify excessive negative camber. The plates are being made up by a friend of mine who is the service manager at my local nelson (Coop Nissan in Burton On Trent). The standard on the front is -0.5 degrees and mine is between -2.5 and -3.0 degrees. He called them in the US and they sent him photos and dimensions of the plates they supply. he has bought some aluminium plate and is going to make the plates up himself. We think that just one plate will be needed to get the camber on my car back into the standard range and Jeff Fowkes will fit the plates and re-check the camber on the car.

Hopefully this will rectify my inner edge wear and also the appallingly bad understeer. Not sure on costs yet as the work hasn't been done but I expect it to be a lot less than $100 plus shipping, etc.

has your car been lowered, if so this is why your tyres are wearing un-evanly due to camber change. yes normaly this is adjusted by adjustable top mounts.

No its not been lowered as far as I know, and it doesnt look lower than others.

It has got new shocks on the back, 2 years ago before I got it.

Just did a tyre check. The inside has 4.5mm of tread and the inside has 2mm. Thats a big difference.

Looks like the bushes to me, I had the exact same thing on the front and had to have both replaced as they were

leaking silicone, both my front tyres were bald within 3 months and had to also replace the brake disks and brake pads.

Hi Mr Z.

Yes, I have that problem on the front too. That is getting done soon. Did you replace them with Nissan rubber bushes or did you put Polly ones on?

Stuart,

I'd say the subframe bushing has died. The metal washer/cup (?) should be level. It doesn't seem to be your pic.

Since you've removed the HICAS (according to your rides profile) I wouldn't think it could have leaked onto the bushing.

I believe that the Rear camber is not adjustable via a camber kit. Although, I do have a vague recollection reading about using a part off of,or made for, a 240sx(?) to adjust the rear camber on our cars.

To replace that bushing I was told that the entire rear subframe has to be removed (off/on/installed bushings ~$600 in labor).

If you're going to remove the subframe, you might want to get the Aluminum Rear Subframe Bushing Kit (made by www.300degree.com )

If you're not looking to spend $200+ shipping, I'd suggest @ least using aftermarket polyurethane bushings (Energy Suspension, etc.)

The solid replacements or the aluminum spacers really help to remove wheel hop. But, the ride is more harsh.

You can get the front camber kit & the rear bushings from Phuong @ www.eatricezone.com .
