I have been trying to get a set of indiglo dials for my imported manual non-turbo Z32 for a sensible price. I have searched the forum and found at least three attempts this year to set up a group-buy for these. They all seem to have fizzled out so now I intend to organise a successful group-buy myself.

 

I have spoken to the manufacturer, mygarage-Glasgow, and they will make us a minimum quantity of twenty, ALL OF ONE DESIGN, for a price of £55 to £59 incl. delivery (let’s assume £60 maximum). By ‘one design’ I think I could persuade them to accept a mix of turbo and non-turbo as the only difference is the cut out in the speedo dial for the booster dial. All other dials would be identical.

 

I will find out about time-scales but, in the meantime, I am looking for opinions from interested members on what the dials should be. My own opinion is that each dial should be as U.K as possible for example:-

 

1) Temperature - standard (I think UK/Jap are the same)

2) Speedo - 180 mph (with or without cut out for boost)

3) Boost -14/+14

4) Tachometer - 0 to 9 with 7-9 red (I think UK/Jap are the same)

5) Oil pressure - psi

6) Fuel - standard (I think UK/Jap are the same)

7) Refer to http://www.mygarage-glasgow.co.uk/ to see what colours/styles are available. Remember they do not yet have graphics for the 300ZX so the dials you see are for other cars and should only be used for judging the colour/style. We can decide on the graphics we want later.

Although I like several of them my preference is Reverse Indiglo (White Background)

 

Please start by stating your choices on this thread but only do so if you think you might be interested in buying. Start with my choices listed above and post anything you would prefer to have different. Once there is sufficient consensus and numbers I will start a new thread for the group-buy. We don’t want to spend weeks discussing our preferences (I think this is what helped kill off the previous threads). I think ten days should tell us whether there is sufficient interest and consensus to proceed with the group-buy.

 

IF YOU KNOW YOU WILL NOT WANT TO JOIN THE GROUP PLEASE DO NOT POST ON THIS THREAD AS IT WILL ONLY ADD TO CONSENSUS DIFFICULTIES.

 

There were twenty-five members who showed interest on previous group-buys and I will send each of them a pm to ensure they know of this group-buy. With that many interested we should have no problem proceeding very soon.

 

Once the design has been established, I suggest each member joining the group pay a deposit (amount to be agreed) that will be deducted from the final price of the dials. This is to ensure that members are committed to the purchase. These deposits will be sacrificed if the member backs out of the group-buy (and used to reduce price to remaining members) but WILL be refunded in full if the group-buy does not proceed. This should not happen as I intend to order the full twenty sets, even if there are not twenty group-buy members. I will pay for, and sell separately, any that are not pre-sold to the group.

 

O.K. let’s go, this is going to be a successful group-buy.

I too would prefer the black background but realise we can only have the one design so will go with the majority on this.

Both the black and white background look good at night, I just think the white one looks a bit chavvy in the daytime.

 

 

Also, do we really want KPH on the clock as well?

I will be starting a new thread for this group-buy in the next few days in order to firm up the process by getting those interested to make a firm committment. First though a number of things to update you:-

 

1) If the twelve who have expressed an interest on THIS thread make a firm committment on the NEW thread then THIS GROUP-BUY WILL DEFINATELY GO AHEAD as I will take the financial risk of buying the full twenty in the expectation that I will be able to sell the remainder to later buyers.

 

2) 'MYGarage' has committed to a price of £59 per set including delivery, presumably in bulk to me. (I still think we should allow for a price of £60 - which is still half the price of the last indiglo group-buy).

 

3) THE SET WILL COMPRISE SEVEN DIALS, with EVERY member of the group receiving ALL the following dials :- a)Temperature b)Speedo with boost cutout c) Speedo without boost cutout d)Boost e)Tachometer f)Oil Pressure g)Fuel.

This means that if you now have a N/A and later buy a Turbo, or vice-versa, you will be able to transfer your dials.

 

4) The delivery time will be six weeks from date of order. I expect to place the order before the end of September. The guy at 'MYGarage' is away on business until 22nd September (probably somewhere in the far east where these dials are actually manufactured) but he is answering my emails.

 

5) VERY IMPORTANT We need to provide 'MYGarage' with a full set of Turbo instruments, including the casing, for them to make the templates. They do not have to be working but must be complete including all needles. THESE INSTRUMENTS WILL NOT BE RETURNED!

Please post here any items you are able to contribute, if neccessary we might be able to make up a set from odds and ends - provided the final article is a complete Turbo set in the casing, so if they are 120mph, 180km/h, -14/+14 or whatever I don't think this will matter. If anyone outside the group can contribute anything we would all be very grateful.

 

6) 'MYGarage' will require 50% (£600) up front when the order is placed with the balance being paid before delivery. I am suggesting that each individual member pays an initial deposit of £20 (I will need to make the total up to the £600 required). When the dials are ready for delivery each member must pay the balance outstanding (£39/£40) (I will make the total up to the £1180/£1200 required).

 

7) GOOD NEWS It seems that 'MYGarage' could supply 10x White background and 10x Black background for no extra cost. That sounds like really good news for those have have stated a preference for the black but are accepting the white to aid the group-buy. I therefore intend to order 10x white and 10x black for the group-buy.

 

That's all for the moment, but the most important thing we have to do is obtain the set of Turbo instruments as soon as possible.

Black background please...

I sent a pm to MAC 1 yesterday with some questions about group-buys. As soon as I get the replies I will set one up for our indiglo dials group-buy.

 

We still need a set of dials and this is becoming urgent. Can anybody help?
