Does anyone know why my car has BOVs and a waste gate. Is this normal

Hi mate,

BOV's / recircs are for releasing the pressure in the intake manifold

Waste gates divert the exhaust gas away from the turbine thus allowing the turbine the spin down.

Thanks for that. So this is quit normal then. My BOV's use to make a noise but now they dont. They are HKS ones. Can I adjust them to make noise again and how do I do it.

Thanks

Konrad

Wrong again!!!

BOV's are there because the sound of a complete ass sounds beter than the sound of a dying goose from the recircs

and you have managed that without making a sound at all lol

Mmm, sounds like a problem there mate. Could one of many things - but usually a boost leak stopping you from producing any reasonable positive pressure! What does your boost gauge show when testing your motor on your private track;) ??

Wait for it

"sounds like its in safety boost"

You think? crap :(

Safety boost only lets you rev to 4k though doesn't it?

Not sure on that part of it but it sholld go pas 5. Take a look at the buyers uide and see if the pic in there looks like your gauge when at full boost

Phew, it's fine. Dead on where it should be, just my gauge goes up to +/-7 that's all.

It's in the right position though

Cool so seems as though we have he same problem. BOV's that dont make any noise.

lol, nope sorry matey mine pop like a paper bag being stepped on but wondered what they actually did.

Someone said mine where installed in the wrong place but now i know what they do they were talking complete balls.

I'm interested to know if you can tune them though to pop less and flutter more :)

or just under 7

Hmm, get yourself down to your local Z doctor / tuning shop etc - who my be able to diagnose the problem. If something is really loose in the pipe-work department, you might experience a poor vacuum when decelerating. I think my gauge shows about -20Hg on overrun, an about -18 when idling (assuming the car has warmed up). On a stock gauge, IIRC, the pointer sits at about the minus 3/4, thats the second to last line, on the (UK) gauge.

At idle thats exactly where it sits. The waste gate works fine, the bov just stoppped its noise. I will have it looked at.

Thanks guys.

Hope it sorts itself out soon matey

BOV's should be installed as close to the throttles as possible, keeps the air moving through the whole system, which is what its supposed to do.

Just read all the posts I missed out on whilst brushing my teeth - look how clean they are: :D

I should have said 7 is normal! which should mean you're producing boost ok, but possibly not relieving it! So, until you get checked out, just take your foot off the gas slowly when backing down from full bost - this'll avoid compressor stall which is BAD!
