are there any? Obviously the air flow is better but how does the filtration compare with the stock?

I read a review where they did a dust test, basically they put a piece of filter paper behind the induction filter and connected to a hoover.

Results where.

Apexi - very clean

k&n and another HKS - ok

HKS mushroom - sh1te

Apexi also gives the best performance results too, from tests.

I have had induction kit on for 3 years and never has a single problem, even when its piss wet through

so I've got an NA with a new exhaust system (absolutely no idea what though) and apparently some uprated cams (jefftt told me that, cus it was harder for him to get the timing belt timed correctly). Will I notice a difference? And will there be no impact on reliability?

you will get a very small increase in performance, basic idea is more in more out so if your engine breaths better it will perform better.you may notice a slightly throatier engine sound, especially on a raspy NA, dependant on how loud your exhaust is

I believe the only issues with induction kits are cold starting but I myself have not had a problem.

How could they affect cold starting? you mean the car might not start or it might run a bit funny while it warms up?

Had a Blitz induction kit for over 6 years now and never had a problem.

The only downside with them is the 'Goose Honk' noise!

Dave

I've had an Apexi on for over a year. My only problem is a very slight hesitancy when its wet out - really wet (like at has been all month). This never gives a big problem, and usually goes away totally when I, ahem, clear its throat with a bit of right foot action :hyper:

I've had a twin Apexi for a year an a half, never had any problems. I think your worrying about nothing, the car will run better because the engine can breath better ;)

ok sounds good. Is it a pretty simple job to install one? I read about some people having to modify a part so it fits.

ive had an Apexi on for about 2 years and not had any problems with it - even when its raining and i have a vented headlight panel. just go ahead and buy one mate and ditch that stupid box!

as for fitting its a piece of cake - just rip out the old box and bolt on the cone filter. when purchasing make sure you dont go for a 'universal' one - get a 300ZX-specific one like from traders on here.

So whats the difference between an 'induction kit' and just a filter?

So whats the difference between an 'induction kit' and just a filter?

the filter is literally the filter unit - usually conical in shape. an 'induction kit' is the filter plus air ducting that scoops air from the front bumper somewhere and faces it into the bumper. basically read as +one fifth bhp :smw:

so really I just need the filter? I've read it should add about 14bhp that about right?

yeah you dont really need any piping. aftermarket filters by themselves will prob only add about 5bhp, but they become far more effective when you also upgrade your exhaust and prob when you up your boost as well.

well I got an NA so no boost for me but there is a new exhaust system but it was done in japan so I got no idea what it is.

I have an Apexi and had no apparent problems but there was a friend whose car (not a Z though) ran rough from cold starts but once warm was fine.

Interesting. Did they say anything about the Blitz kit?

Ive got the Blitz SUS never had a single bit of bother .. but remember .. when you fit an induction kit its well worth resetting your ECU so it gets to learn the new mod

Rodders, your post reminded me of it. I only read it a few days ago but cant remember how I found it or who refered me to it. Good review although it goes on to say that it could all be made up!

Anyone see vroom vroom last night on sky one? MX5 with induction and exhaust - overall improvement? Bang on ZERO bhp improvement  Don't believe the crap floating around out there! Unless you have an "asthma special" filter fitted to your car at the moment, you won't see much improvement fitting an aftermarket one ;) All IMO of course ;):D
