A little while ago the downpipe on my MR2 went bye bye, tracking down a breaker that had the part proved to be a pain in the ass. So I went out and bought a Zed (as you do).

I've finally managed to pin a downpipe down. It'll cost about £90 for the part, and I can fit it myself. Now the question is should I sell the MR2 or keep it? It uses a **** load less fuel than the Zed, and has better handling imo (although I am sure with some work the Zed can be brought up to scratch). But its an NA and after driving the Zed it seems a little pointless.

I am toying with the idea of turning it into a track day car, single turbo conversion, NOS, improved air intake, big **** off brakes. But then again I could sell it and put the money into my new toy (the Zed of course).

Thoughts?

(I also have an iddy biddy Citroen Ax to run PA kit around in, but I may give that to my sister if she ever gets round to passing her test!)

no point keeping the mr2 you got a zed now! enough said

is one thing to say tho, get a TT experience the awsome power of 2 turbos then your never look back :)

I'd keep one of the other.

Tuning the MR2 and sorting the handling on the Zed are both potentially big / expensive jobs.

Two completely different cars bud, if the mister2 was a

tubby, then i'd say try & keep 'em both. Is it a rev1 or rev2?

dont put a turbo on it, easier and cheaper to sell and buy a turbo mr2

they are nice cars, but if i had to have one i'd keep the zed,

rev2 has rounded rear lights doesnt it? Funny you're asking though as I really love mr2's and I often look at them on auto trader imagining I might get one. I don't know why though cus I'd have a zed as well as an mr2 as well as a funabout. Don't tell Zed I look though she just wouldn't understand.

Rev 3 onwards have the rounded rear lights, easily fitted to

the rev1 & 2, so can be hard to tell.

Think its a rev2, just spoken to one of those people who advertise on Auto trader wanting to buy MR2's, I should get about 1k for her, which aint bad. Monies to improve things on the Zed I think.

Still not sure as to what to do. Alfo, you driven an MR2? You can really throw it into the corners, which you cant (at least I cant) with the Zed - that driving fun is missing from the Zed - although blowing pretty much everyone away has its perks too :)

Does anyone know if the wheels I have on the MR2 will be compatible with the ZX? I prefer the alloys on my MR2 as opposed to the ones on the Zed.

MR2 Wheels

Zed Wheels.

If I can straight transpose them, I think I will :)

sell the mr2 and get a turbo'd one no point in converting the existing one.

don't bother, they suck :p

those split rims on the zed looks fantastic, have them refurbed and they will be superb, especially with a mirror polished rim.

anyway, from looking at the pics, the offset on the mr2 ones looks small, the zed needs quite a lot to clear the brakes.

I think they're different fitments but I'm not certain.

I've never driven an mr2. I may go around import garages just to test drive stuff. my driving experience consists of a pug106 diesel (driving lessons) 2 1.0 micras (mom & dads car), a fiesta (my first car) and a zed (my second car). So as you can imagine to me the zed feels shit hot in the handling stakes. Like I say I do love mr2's and if I was forced to buy a car right now it would probably be one of them.

As for the alloys I like them both but I'd imagine the zedtt rears would be quite a bit thicker than a non turbo mr2

One of those death traps killed my brother (it was a turbo), Throttle stuck open. GET RID while you can

Shit, sorry to hear that dude :(

Well an "appointment" has been made for someone to come look at it and take it away. I just have to fit this downpipe over the weekend.

I'm sorry to hear about your brother, however calling them deathtraps is completely irrational. Jamming throttles is not a common problem on them. However throttles sticking wide open IS a common issue on zeds, maybe you should get shut of that as soon as you can.

My MR2 tubby is great fun. As quick as a tt zed up to about 80-90

but handles like a go cart. the mr2 rims are 35 offset same stud fitment

i think 114 but probably to skinny 7j normally.

I luv your tubby Bubbles and he's looking and sounding mightie mean at present :D :D

Sell the Mr2, keep the zed. There is no comparison!.

And replace that tired old suspension with new or uprated units and enjoy the handling.

It didnt crash at high speed it happend in a 30Mph zone it was the fact that the car crumpled like a piece of paper and acording to the police the problem is common in the MR2 Turbo, (why is it know to have handling like a blumonge if it's such a good car) good drag cars though when fiddled.

Well looks like I'll be selling the MR2 and getting a van :) I need a transit for one of my new ventures (a pa hire company).

Thought the verdict from you guys would be "sell it!" :)
