Went to my local Shell station this morning to fill up. Parked at the pump I always fill up at and it had V-Power on the pump nozzle and 99.9 as the price, I thought, yeah, ok, so filled up. Went in and payed and asked the guy behind the counter if it was V-Power or Optimax, he said 'no, not V-Power, still Optimax but I'm not supposed to tell you that' and went on saying it's V-Power all over Europe now.

So all they have done is relabled all the Optimax pumps to V-Power pumps

Surley the can get done for selling an incorrectly labled product ?

I think it's just a case of Optimax now being called V-Power in line with the rest of europe. Don't think the fuel is any different.

I'll ask Ferrari guys tomorrow (going racing at Brands Hatch -GT2 stuffs)

V-power is/will be 99 ron, instead of the 98ron optimax.

Shell V-Power has an octane rating of 99 RON, designed to provide more power and improved responsiveness in many modern cars.

Perhaps they had just re-labelled it too early...or the guy behind counter does'nt knwo what he's talking about.

I was under the impression that V power i sthe next move on from optimax, its more than just octane. Better cleaning properties and additives plus a couple extra octane. 99.9 for opt or v power id be happy was 102 last time i filled up!

V-power has been at the pumps for many years in other countries. About time we caught up.

Went to fill up at my local Shell garage in Truro this evening expecting to put Optimax in and to my suprise Cornwall has actually now got V-Power!!! Yep it's 99.9 down here and noticed quiet a difference in performance... Wasn't expecting anything different really but my Z'ed definatley pulled a little better and on a gear change from accelerating hard from 3RD to 4TH my Z'ed actually chucked a massive flame out from the rear, scared the shit out of me!!!

Also when I got home my reversing lights which didn't work now work again so yep.. V-Power, it's good motion lotion!!!

Well all I can say is that the advertising at the pump implies that it's a different/better fuel that Optimax, so if it ain't and it's just a simple rebranding exercise... I reckon they might be in a bit of trouble. Maybe anyway, they're a big corporation so equally they might just get away with it.

I filled up with V-Power for the first time last night - 98p litre here in Brum!!!! (Same as optimax was)

anyway - defo increase in power/response....really good i rekon.

seems like an obvious question..but what was the octane rating on the pump?

i paid 96.9p / litre for tesco's 99 ron the other day, well stoked :D

actually, good point, it doesn't say...

I've got some, ran half a tank through and waiting to see what benefits it has. Already seems to pull like a train between 60-100

but having a fuel with a higher octane rating wont give your car any more power will it. it will just help stop detting. Right or wrong?

Right

you need a remap to make the most of the higher octane, without a remap you jest get better protection from det

so how do all these people claim to put v power in and have more power. it must just be psychological

Right

But surely Jap imports that are still mapped to 100ron, wont need re-mapping and will benefit anyway?

yep jap spec run on 100 ron over there lucky barstewards

yep, so us with jap imports that were never mapped back to 95 or 97 for UK fuel will benefit, without having to re-map.. :hyper:

i dont know what detting is but in my seat leon (1.8 turbo), the difference between boring old 97 and tesco 99 is huge!! it revs freer, swear it spools quicker etc. the car is just more responsive generally...

Yes, the knock sensor on your Leon will allow the ECU to adjust the timing to suit the increased RON, hence you'll get a bit more response.
