Hello, I am a shiny new and looking for a 300ZX. I am really fussy about cars and I want a really decent example, I am prepared to travel all over the country to get it.

My budget is around £7000, I i am after a 96 or 95, at a push a 94. Not bothered if its modded or not.

I am after an oynx black manual TT with leather.

Question is though, will a Jap import be that much more expenisve to insure?

And Is there a specialist who sells Z's or can source a quality.

What is the wisest thing I can do with my give or take £7000?

Thanks! :smw:

£7,000 should get you a really good example.

As for insurance I have been shopping around recently for my first Z, which is a Jap Import and the difference in insurance is about 25%

I do believe that 96 is the last model year that can be imported. You might find a later model year that's been in this country since before the rules were changed. Not sure when the last of the UK ones were sold - I think 94 was the last year. Taking salty roads and the resulting rust, I'd look for a jap as bodywise it'll undoubtedly be in much better condition - no salt on their roads. Also, jap prices being about half what we pay for parts and their strict MOT regs means you invariably get good serviced mechanicals.

Good luck

PS if you are worried about insurance costs, spend your money on something sensible ...same goes for petrol/mpg.

Hi,

I would recommend that you don't get a '96 model. I imported a my '96 NA about a year ago, and had to fork out another £800 odd quid to get it pas the SVA test because it was less then ten years old. All in all it actually cost me well over £6k

96+ models are harder to chip as it uses a later ECU. (but i believe the whole ECU can be changed, which is what i'm planning to do). Also there may be other little suprises, for example the perpex cover the the dials is actually a different size, though it looks almost identical.

Insurance wise imports are more expensive, and a lot of big companies won't touch them. But it depends heavily on where you live. Also, NA's are cheaper to insure (Would've cot me nearly 500 more for a TT).

snx.

Sonix - I've a 97 NA and I believe that from mid year 1995 they changed the cams and got rid of the variable valve timing. I've no knowledge of changing an ECU, I know the TT guys do it, but can you for an NA?

Good luck

I have a '96 Jap TT, with a 32bit ECU.

I swapped the ECU for a series 2 16bit over a year ago now with no concerns. I checked with Nissan HQ and was told it was fine to change.

Cheers

Steve

There's a club affiliated importer called Importance who should be able to get a nice one to your spec for that sort of money.

Thanks for all the help, however a 6 litre v8 would make my insurance co. feel sick.

You could always buy my NA and have £3500 left over :D

Good luck in your search buddy.

Rich

Must have turbo! Having looked further into this, it seems I can get what I am after for about 4500- 5500 quid.
