Performance is about the same as a Stock TT but with less top-end, not as powerfull, but lighter, although the Auto's are slower.

Slightly Better on the track in standard trim than the zed becuase of the lighter weight, but very tail happy, especially in the wet.

Not as well built, reliable, comfortable or praticle as a zed, and very thirsty but more hard edged as standard.

Great cars in there own way, but not usually ranked the same as the Zed or Supra.

Looks good.

If people think a zed is reliable, your wait till you own one of them and a seal goes.

The only reason I'd trade in the zed would be because it's old and therefore more prone to hip replacements etc. But then the only reason I could afford the zed is because it's old. But i would have had it anyway though cus I love it.

The one i was in did not have that much done to it had about 320 at the fly ported heads etc...and sorry to say i think it would do the z in this thing pulled right up to 8000rpm and would still have been going if the rev range had not run out and just felt a dam sight quicker, plus i`m looking at one at 400bhp at the fly now i`m sure not may z bhp the same will keep up poss right at the top end 140-180 ish but whan do we get the pleces to do that regular!

What's 0-60 times in your Zed?? Reason I'm asking is because you possibly may have a sick car hence the reason the rex felt quick. Even then that rex is 320 at the fly and the zed is 280. I just fixed my boost leak which I never knew I had untill I installed my boost gauge, it's a whole new car now with very minor mods.

the rex does have the nicest sounding engine ever made though!

Yep mine does I love it as much as I love my Zed

I can' t really make a good comparison between a standard zed and standard Rx7 as both my old Zed (340bhp at wheels) and Rx7 (465bhp atw! :) )are far from standard. They are a very different car. The zed is the perfect fast motorway or big road cruiser whereas the Rx7 is the ultimate A road beast. I've got the RSR edition which is a very limited edition that has uprated bilstein shocks, springs and bigger breaks to standard. Its like the type R edition which you should try to get if you buy one. The performance of the Rx7 eats the Zed for breakfast and spits it out in every possible way (sorry!) except for comfort. Maybe the top end of two standard cars would be higher on the zed but its immaterial as the Rx7 is so much lighter, so its just pub talk really. I'd say the Rx7 sits midway between the Zed which I consider an almost perfect road car, and a perfect trackcar such as the caterham7 or one of those little Lotus's. If you want a perfect trackcar something like the Caterham makes much more sense as its faster on the corners, but its stupidly impractical to drive on the road for normal journeys. The Rx7 is pretty harsh, and I've had to buy a trailor for mine as its so loud and I don't want to put boring motorway miles onto it going to trackdays. A more standard Rx7 is quite happy on the motorway though, just not as comfy as the Zed.

Rebuilding them is par for the course so make sure its had a recent rebuild in the past 10k or so if its done over 50k. Its not as big a deal as in a piston engine though as there are very few parts to a rotary. I think a full rebuild is around £1800 and a tip refresh about £600 ish by professionals.

Petrol consumption is pretty horrific but if you are used to the zed and using it for A road blasts and not motorway driving everyday then its not so bad. My zed used to cost about a quid for every 5 miles, my Rx7 costs about a quid for every 3 miles (but bare in mind its massively tuned). I'd say a rough estimate would be 15-25mpg for the zed, and 10-20mpg for the Rx7, although I've had 5 more mpg on either car whilst on long motorway journeys.

So basically I still think the Zed is the best 'road car' out there in terms of comfort with performance, and usable as a daily drive. If you are just using it for country blasts and trackdays with a few trips to work now and again then the Rx7 is the one, the best 'toy' so to speak.

All the high speed figures IMO are 1980's pub talk. Just look at all the Jap video mags, there's a reason the zed isn't in all the track races. The Zed is too heavy (as standard), and too big to be a track beast. You are better off looking at the alternatives if you want pure performance driving.

I thought of getting a RX7 but I’ve still got a soft spot for the Zs, there’s something about them. The RX7 looks more up to date but I still like the look of the Z.

ok im prob gonna start an argument off here lol but everyone is open to an opinion.

As a lot of you know I just sold the zed and now own an rx but trust me i personally think if you get a good one there fantastic. only had it few days and im very impressed.

even though the zed was 400bhp (approx) the rx seems a lot quicker. my missus said the rx scares the shit out of her it just seems to constantly pull more than the zed.

I kind of agree with royal that the zed is a cruiser and the rex is more of a country racer. gfor a bit of drifting too.

but i aint slagging of the 300 lol because there still my second favourite at the moment :) but dont listen to the horror storys about engine re-builds etc because you can buy a recently built rx for good money now and i bet an rx rebuild is similar cost to a zed rebuild

lol i need diferent sig oops

Totally agree m8 If I didn’t have the Z it would be a RX7. the engines are good people don’t know how to look after them.

We have both in our house hold and I just cann't get my Zed to take off as fast as I can the REX. But I can catch it once I do get it going. :)

It out brakes the Zed at present. The amount of times the Zed's almost gone into the back of it no matter who's driving which car. LOL.

But standard REX it ain't.

I love them both equally but the Zed has a bit more room in it, it doesn't use as much oil, and it's not such a hard ride.
