I'm considering one of these as my next car, because it's cheaper than a zed and more reliable (from what i understand, anyway).

So, I'd like some opinions from zed owners who may have owned GTI-Rs in the past. Please try to keep it unbiased, i'm just looking for experiences, knowledge, etc...

I know a big thing to look out is gearboxes/clutches, so that's on the checklist. Anything else? Guna spend around the £4k-4.5k mark...

not too clued up but all i will say is my mate had one running 350bhp and the accelaration was fooking ridiculous! really cant put it into words, like being teleported from one place to the other amd ive driven some very quick cars. check the owners club see what they say

Nippy little cars mate, but as you say, the gearboxes are

made from cheese! Bit bland & basic inside too. Try and

find one with a fmic fitted as the standard intercoolers

loose about 60bhp once they get hot, as they are placed on top

of the engine!

Have you also considerd an mr2 tubby, you'd get a decent rev3

for your money (245bhp standard), or a celica gt4, 200sx etc...?

personaly not had 1 but know a few ppl that have quite quick little cars but had a few probs with them, i try find out what the probs where for you.

now my biased opinion i think you would be better with the 200sx like the 1 above

I can vouch that they are very seriously quick cars, would give a zed a pasting in standard form.

although youll never find one as good looking as mine!

We've had 2!

I thought it was a great car, weak spots are the clutch and gear box is too weak for the standard GTIR engine, IMHO.

I'd still have another one, it also has other faults like the electric windows, the speed sensor can fail, which is an absolute pig to change...... :x:

This was our last one!

Have a look on http://www.gtiroc.com

I Love Them Had 1 For A Few Years And Had No Problems But I Did Spend Silly Cash On It Before Anything Went Wrong

about 3 to 6k i reckon, obviously yes there are some outrageous spec for a bit more, quite a few on ebay, its the next car on my list

cheers guys. was aware of the TMIC, dunno why you would ever place an intercooler directly in the path of engine heat! completely baffles me :)

have considered S13s, if i coulda sold my car in time i was hoping to buy the one jack has in his sig. its beautiful!

also considered celicas but theyre a bit more for the GT4 and the pulsar is just the right price. MR2s are a bit soft looking for my liking, although i know they can be quick as hell.
