I was out for a ride today and was going down Sloane Street ( as you do  ) when I saw a beautiful creamy coloured DB9 holding up the oncoming traffic as he reverse parked . Then I noticed the numberplates were in Arabic Script , starting from a large thin squibble and kinda trailing off into tiny squibble . Oh , and it was in black on a white background . Is that legal ?

No envy involved , o` course ;)

I know you see foreign plates around , but at least they`re in letters and numbers Brits can read .

Was it diplomatic plating?

Was it diplomatic plating?

No , not as far as I could tell...it was illegible to all but Arabic readers .

For " Squibble " read squiggle : damn keyboard :duffer:

Which reminds me of the woman who went into the Butcher`s and ordered half a pound of kidley . He says , " You mean kidney , don`t you ? "

She says " That`s what I said , diddle I ? "

I Thank you all , and good night :wack:

Yes, it's perfectly legal to drive a foreign registered car with foreign license plates in this country. I believe you can do so up to 6 months before having to either (a) take the car out of the country (and then come back) or (b) register for UK plates (will require SVA, etc, etc ...)

My father has been the Dutch ambassador to Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) for three years, got placed back to Holland for a short duration of 9 months and drove his (private) car on Saudi diplomatic plates for the first 6 months before acquiring Dutch plates. Should have seen the faces of the public because the car has completely blacked out windows and is armoured - I think "terrorist" sprung to mind. He was frequently stopped by the police who checked the documentation - never had a problem. Never had a ticket either as they couldn't copy the registration plate details into their hand held units! :)

He's now taken the car to Dubai for the next three years.

cheers,

Dan
