I'm going smooth rear on my zed but with what i'm wanting to do i think i may need to add something to help keep her ass on the road/track so what sort of ideas on a "functional" spoiler and hopefully look OK as well??? :)

There will only be a few that actually work and have been wind tunnelled, the rest probbaly cause just as much lift as downforce.

Stock (including 99spec ! ;)) and Strosek being the two I know of that are actually wind tunnel tested.

I think this is what you need :-

guaranteed to keep yer ass in check, mainly cuz it wieghs more than the fookin car! :D

TBH, mine felt a lot more stable when she was smooth than either before with the medium level one fitted (now of SUFFOLKZX's) or now with the 99 spec on. Especially in a cross wind (no, I don't mean a wind that's got a bad temper either  )

I think it's the monza rear bumper you'll be wanting (the one same as on tizers, bee gee vinces and the beasts) they have a spoiler panel built in to hold the rear down and look real good too.

rear diffuser like mine bud

you got any pics jason?? and details of where you got it and how much etc :)

Kirbz, I'm in the same boat as you. Originally went for the smoothed rear look but now thinking I may have to find a functional spoiler to use with it. The thoughts I've had on the subject so far are:

ย

1. Adjustable APR carbon "pylon" spoiler. Not really to my taste but the higher end models have been aerodynamically tested. Nowhere near as good as testing it on the car but then I don't have ยฃ10,000 for an hour in a wind-tunnel! :D

ย

2. Chopped down "pram handle" style spoiler. Non-adjustable though :(

ย

3. Koenigsegg CCX "Top Gear" style spoiler. Lower profile but effective.

ย

4. Custom. Design my own and make it. Wouldn't be able to test the thing but could at least factor in as much as possible whilst still ending up with something that I like the look of.

most of em are just cosmetic unless your gonna be doing over 150mph everywhere like an F1 car then i dont really think they do much in everyday driving apart from look good and cause some drag but thats my opinion, So what have i just gone and done, ordered 1 lol but its for looks really

Adjustable carbon fibre mecanno style one imo. These ones actually provide decent downforce, and don't look that daft if your car is of the right style

what do you recon to this

not too ott but is adjustable? not cheap but well made?

ย

anyone fancy doing a photoshop of it on a zed?

Mike

I'm keen to see what you can come up with Kirbz, I am in the same boat and don't want to just add drag to the car.

ย

As mine is SWB it's already a little sketchy at high speed and part of me thinks that more downforce on the rear will make the steering light at high speed.

ย

P.S. I think Wings West also tested their rear spoilers in a wind tunnel.

nooooooooo mike .....its a bit barry dont you think !!!

ย

i think you should go for something to reflect the cars

werewoolf in wolfs clothing image ....a subtle koeneggggseigseggseggssggg thingy

or adpat a rear lip spoiler from an Audi tt

problem is it would need to be adjustable and dont worry it will only be put on when i'm running the car on a track etc not for driving around ;)
