Hi there you ridiculously helpful people...

I posted up a problem a couple of months back when my Zed was peeing water out of the bottom and overheating like a big bitch. That time it stunk and whistled lots and water was pouring out while the engine was running. That turned out to be a totalled water pump for your reference...

...today a slightly different problem has occurred.

I drove into Colchester, parked up and all was fine. I came back to the car 5 mins later to hear a hissing noise coming from the engine bay. I looked underneath and, yep, water was coming out again from behind the front wheels at a steady flow. AAAAAAAAH! Later on I decided to risk driving it the 10 miles home, so I went to top up the rad but it didn't seem to have lost much fluid. I drove home carefully and the temp guage stayed dead central all the way (last time it was off the top in about 4 mins) and I parked up and got out to look underneath. No water was coming out. I switched off the engine, and popped the bonnet and there was a hiss coming from the back of the engine. The hiss got gradually louder for about 5 mins, then went quiet again, then water started to come out again from underneath! So the car's not overheating, and doesn't seem to be leaking when it's running, so what the hell is going on?

Sorry, long post, hope anyone could be bothered to read it all! I would love some ideas on what might be the problem, as I've now ploughed about £1500 into the Zed over 5 months without actually improving it and I'm starting to get a little upset and disillusioned. If this is going to be expensive too I don't know what I'll do.

Can anyone help?!

Christian

i reckon you need to be checking all your water pipes round the back of your engine n maybe you got air lock in water system. mine did it regular for ages till i pulled the engine and replaced all water pipes.

best of luck.

if your in colly, pop into GBH motorsport, just down near rollerworld, they had a few zeds down there last time i popped in

I would check all of the small water hoses located all aver the engine including the heater hoses. I have had several leaks over time but have now replaced all hoses. You can do it with the engine in place but will take hours and hours to complete (not to mention skinned knuckles). Sounds like you have water hitting some part of the exhaust system which causes the hissing. Later on when things cool down, the water, instead of evaporating, leaks out the bottom.

check your turbo hoses matey, one of mine went last year and i had a similar problem, took em both off and changed them and fitted new clamps, so i have been replacing every pipe in the car every chance i get now.

i had some hoses go and they only leaked when i turned off the ignition, something to do with pressure.

As always, thanks for the great advice guys.

I went and saw Tony2000 today who had a look and he found it was the feed pipe from the engine to the heater matrix that is shot. Just like to say a big thank you to Tony for diagnosing that, and sourcing the part for me, and giving me some front brake pads! It's a shame that you've sold the Zed, but you're still a legend! The beer count is going up quick, and doesn't look like slowing down soon!

Thanks again,

Christian
