Purely out of interest, see I got this 'friend'. He got 3 points on his licence (driving a fiesta - not a zed, 39 in a 30 zone thinking he was in a 50 zone) and he's now wondering:

1. how will it effect his insurance premium

2. does he now have to ring insurance companies saying "hey I got 3 points please let me pay you more money".

Thanks for any help you can give (him).

It could affect his premium, it would depend on a lot of factors, but if it's his first(only) then probably no affect.

Technically he should contact them, but I didn't bother untill renewal, and mine never said anything.

A single SP30 will do precious little to his licence if it was previously clean.

Really? Mine went up by the square root of fook all. Infact, I have 6 points on my licence and it didn't seem to make much of a difference.

yup, additional premium of about £130, first points as well!

do i don't i?

but remember if you don't and if you are one unlucky sod and have an accident, then it is a reason for them to void your claim:(

if yours have gone now - mine were nearly 2 years ago - it might have changed by now!

Could be why some people have said theirs wernt affected?

My SP30 (42 IN A FOOKIN 40) :headvswal Has done Fook all to mine, I am 39 with FNC Bonus

I... I mean my friend was about to ring to tell them earlier but then he realised he hasn't actually got the points yet, just the letter saying that he's going to get them. How long do they last for again? 18 months?

If your mate dont tell the insurance company, they will be in the right not to pay out if he has a claim because they do ask you if you have had any convictions etc.

I would expect the premium to go up but I suppose it depends on your age and the insurance company.

I think he's going to tell them at the same time as he tells them he wants his mom put on as a named driver. Should cancel each other out then he reckons.
