I've presently got a Z32 2+2 which is N/A manual. Although I like it very much, I am being wooed by the body mods that are around, particularly the vented front wings and raised rear spoiler. The cost and time involved in putting these on my Z has made me think it would probably be better to buy one that already has the spec I like. So I have been looking at Z's for sale but most of those that have the spec I would like are SWB 2-seaters. Apart from the obvious, what other differences are there between the two versions?

what sort of differences do you mean ?

They are shorter, with a shorter wheel base and shorter overall length. Virtually every panel from the A-pillars back are different. Only 2 seats ofcourse. Deeper boot.

Lighter weight. Handling feels slightly more nimble and responsive at lower speeds, but not as secure at high speeds.

but not as secure at high speeds.

trust me... mines very.. very secure at high speed.. royal was behind me last year on the way home from ross on wye, i think he can back me up on that!!! lol

i believe they are the same

Some peole believe the earth is flat!!!!

What David says!

Although Im not sure of the relevance of the perceived lack of high speed stability to this country where doing in excess of 100mph will get you put in jail.

I regularly touch 100mph just after the finish line at Santa Pod and then slow down without any drama to exit the track.

Doing 136mph at Bruntingthorpe was OK too. But I wouldnt reccomend trying it on any British motorway.

If you have a need to carry more than one passenger then obviosly you need that 2+2 capacity. If not then once you have driven a 2 seater you wont want to go back to driving "family saloon 2+2s" again. :)

Free test drive of mine available to back up my opinion.(VALID INSURANCE REQUIRED AND ME IN PASSENGER SEAT) :x:

LOL your at it again pete ! ;)

I have driven every Z32 type, many times, and the truth is that the Condition of shocks, springs and bushings have a far more drastic affect than the Chassis type!. As does Suspension setup, wheel size and tyre choice.

Its a shame that half the zeds out there are running around on old, worn suspension - and they never realise the handling and ride potential even with a stock setup.

gotta agree with dave on that point as soon as white-zed (kev) and i changed the springs and shocks on mine it felt totally different, i also fitted new arms on the hicas the car was lowered 40mm and it now takes corners like its glued to the road.

if i keep the car and get around to replacing every bush on the car that will also improve things no end. with the price on front and rear shocks so cheeap these days there really isnt any excuse not to get them done (unless you gotta wife like mine who sucks my credit cards dry all the fookin time buying crap!!)

LOL your at it again pete !

dave ..yami is selling her swb wide arch red tt all done bud,,,,,give her a call

The stability of a SWB is fine, I was recorded at a guarenteed 172.9mph at Bruntingthorpe last year and it was planted on the track perfectly.

But, the 2+2 is definately a nicer drive, more comfotable and relaxed, but why would you want to be relaxed with a 300+ bhp engine in front of you LOL

Buy a SWB, it DOES make sense (unless you have kids lol)

Rich

yep - Ive had both - prefer my shortie by far

but it is lowered and uprated springs etc

Thank you to all you guys for the inputs, it seems it's a case of 'horses for courses'. I am not a speedy kind of guy, a ton is plenty for me, and I don't want to track race any car of mine, I respect them too much (no disrespect intended to all you racing types, I love watching you but it's not for me). As a grandfather to three I guess I should stick to a 2+2, I have to admit to really enjoying my present one and the grandkids love it too.

SO..........I went out yesterday and put a deposit on a 1995 Z32 2+2 N/A Manual from an importer based near Dudley. It's really beautiful and will make a most suitable replacement for my present Z. I can't wait to collect it next Friday.

Once again, thanks for all your inputs.

Cos the big Zed looks less nesh than the little 'un! :x:

And all used in motorsport were LWB.

i live the lwb but alot of people swear by the swb. I had a go in one once and it felt a little tighter in the handling but not as practical though

the biggest diff is that the SWB is 300 kg lighter and corners better....

...the rest is down to the driver.... :)
