Last week I went through a deep patch of water, car cut out but then started again with a loud knocking/rattling. Oil pressure etc is fine, any suggestions on what it could be? Bottom end was rebuilt i Feb so don't think it could be that.

where abouts is the knocking/rattling coming from can you pin point it to any spercific part of the engine?

 

Is it all the time or just when you accelarate?

 

Does the car still perform properly?

Can't really tell where it's coming from. Rattles all the time, gets faster when you rev it. As for performance havent driven it since.

if it was deep enough to be drawn into the intake, it could have bent a rod(s) :(

It's also got white stuff around the oil cap but water looks ok.

Hmmm thats what i was thinking, was hopeing to illiminate it with more info.

 

check all electrical connections, clean and dry em out. But does sound like internal damage if it increases with engine speed. water dont compress so something gotta give

white stuff around oil cap, like a cream?

 

thats usually what happends when water gets in the oil, check the oil to see if it gone white or level has risen.

 

if it has im affraid water has got in your engine then a bent rod is more than lickely

What sort of money am I looking at to fix that?

I think i will have to sell it as is cause funds are low, a shame, i have only had it a few weeks, its had loads spent on it before I got it. Too good to split for parts.

At least get it down to a garage for them to have a look at before you sell it. A zed witha broken engine isnt going to sell for much cash im afraid when you can pick up decent ones for around 4k!

dont be too quick there. Hang on to it im sure you will get it sorted engines do come up for sale, buy a cheep run about untill funds permit, you will always regret getting rid of it engine for sale in the above thread
