Finally got round to buying the 27mm i needed, anyway upon turning the engine over, I found that for a start, the lines on the belt don't line up properly on all 4 sprockets, if I line up the leftmost one, the rightmost one is about 5mm out. Anyway, I carried on turning it round till the mark on the crank pulley was at 0 on the plate. At this point, all the cam sprockets lined up right, with the dimples on the intake and cutouts on the exhaust. I assume this is correct and at TDC on cyl 1? My concern is that the lines on the belt are not even close to the same position, they lined up about half a turn on the crank before.

Should the marks on the belt match the marks on the sprockets? I assume they should. Also the arrows on the belt are pointing backwards not forwards, it is put on backwards?

I assume this engine has had the belt changed before, but by a monkey who didn't give a shit how it went on.

When I did mine I put a tipex line on the crank and the block when all the cam sprockets were lined up with dimples and cutouts.

Then removed the belt and fitted the new one. We didnt worry too much about the lines on the belt as long as the tipex, dimples and cutouts stayed lined up. The lines on the belt will be close but not exact.

Once we had the belt on and tensioned, we did a complete turn of the engine (manually) to make sure the dimples and cutouts were still inline.

Follow that and you wont go far wrong.

the lines on the belt are for installation only.cant remember how many turns for them to line up again but it runs into the hundreds!!!.as previouisly stated a dab of tipex and you cant go wrong.zed cambelts really are straightforward compared to a v6 vauxhall.just remember to turn it over twice after fitting.if it goes tight and wont turn dont force.check your marks again.
