Rear subframe bushes....weeping...MOT failure?

2 of my subframe bushes are leaking slightly. There doesn't seem to be any play in the subframe. I've had a good jiggle around when it was up on the ramp.

 

I am planning on replacing them with new ones when I upgrade all the suspension over the winter.

 

Just wondering, are these MOT failures? Or do they have to be hanging off and have as much play as a dick in a bucket to fail?

 

MOT is on Saturday.

I have the exact problem, one subframe bush is leaking. I wiped the silicond away and the mot guy didn't notice. otherwise its an mot failure. I have got a full set of Nismo bushes for the rear which I am planning to fit soon... can't wait!

Should be a failure but if the tester cant see it leaking he cant fail it so give it a good clean and change in due course

Yep, try what diddy P did first and discretely wipe them when he not looking.

 

Unfortunatly its quite a big job to do, the whole rear subframe has to be removed so you can get the old bushes out and the new ones pressed in.

well to be honest its not that big a job to do if your able to get to grips with what needs doing,

 

i did do a big ar5e post up on it.

as for the bushings any engineering place will just press em out and back in if you ring in advance and have everything clean and ready inc the new bushings, as for cutting the old ones out as shown in the pics, not needed if they are gonna be pressed out.

Thanks guys. Well I'll give them a really good scrub and see what happens. I do want them replaced as I'm going to fit PU bushes, Eibach springs and KYB shocks over the winter. TBH, if the MOT was in 2 months time, it would be great as I'd just take it off the road. The car litterally has to do 2 months before it gets laid up for the winter.

weeping bushes are not an mot failure only reasons to fail bushes is for excessive play/ movement or excessive deterioration of bonding between bush material and steel components of bush. if examiner fails bush for leaking ask him to show you where in testers manual it shows a weeping bush as a failure. should be a pass and advise only.

Si give me a shout and i can show you how much movement is in the bush.the fluid damps the bush for a smooth ride.trust me it will have a lot of play in it when levered.mot wise if an item is deemed likely to fail very shortly then im sure it can be failed.if the bush is leaking the fluid which is sealed and needed for it to work correctly then it is no good.if a balljoint gaitor is split then it fails as the balljoint is sure to wear out very soon.let me know bud how you get on.get your bushes from driftworks as ive already done a set and they are peanuts and easy to fit once youve burned the old ones out.pressing takes to long.as mentioned though if you clean all traces of fluid away from the bush or distract the guy doing the test buy discussing your peachy car then im sure youll get a pass!!.

you cant fail something because you think it is going to fail sometime in the near future you can only fail items that at the time of testing meet the specified criteria for a fail , you cant fail a balljoint for a split gaitor either.

Too true you can only fail a ball joint if it has excessive play in it or any!

Also tyres near limits would fail all the time in that case as would be below limits in a few days or weeks!

A certificate of Mot means that at the time and date of the MOT test the vehicle has met the minimum legal requirements in accordance with section 45 of the Road traffic act 1988 and due's not mean that it will continue to meet those requirements for a further twelve months.:p
