i think im gonna get him to change the cam belt, water pump and inlet hoses!!!

i have what i think is a leaking water pump (thanks for the posts) and i cant drive the car to a zed specialist, i trust the mechanic, he races cars and builds turbos.

im posting to ask what special info i need to give him, im going to make sure i only get nissan parts. Why is the zed cambelt more tricky than other cars?

im going in to see him today so help would be fantastic!

thanks

paul

Either give him these URL's to look at or print them out.

Doing the timing belt isnt that tricky if he takes his time and reads these sites. He will have to remove everything from the front (radiator, fan, boost hoses etc) so he'll have enough room to work in. Only thing that tripped us up was the tensioner. DO NOT wind it back using the bolt use a C clamp and use the bolt to hold it in position.

May also wanna change the thermostat, idlers and possibly the front crank seal whilst your there. Also if your thinking of replacing the heavy front pulley for a lightened UD one then now would also be a good time to upgrade.

Hope this helps bud

cheers lads. im taking it in on thu, he says it should take roughly 5 hours, im encouraged by the fact that he rebuilt a lancia from front to back and is the mechanic on a decent 3 car racing team.

he looked at the how to (thanks turbo) and said it should be fine, he is also using it as a guide which makes me feel better as i was dreading him having an attack of pride and not wanting to be told what to do. he seems pretty cool.

ill let you know how it goes.

cheers

paul

just out of a matter of interest where abouts are you taking it to.still havent got round to getting mine done yet.let me know how you get on,could do with a good zed mechanic in sheffield

its gelders on sharrowvale rd, its where i take the volvo, they are volvo specialists but andy is the guy that works as a mech on a racing team.

ill let you know how i get on. ive told them if it goes well they may have a line of zeds from south yorks outside!!!

im in s5 by the way, where are you?

im in longley! you got a purple zed? you know bunny walker?

done mine at the weekend, is really not that hard!

took me 1 1/2 hrs on fri night to get it stripped down to the cambelt. took me about 4hr to finish it from there on sat, inc removing all the pullys to do the cam/crank seals all tensioners etc that you get with the 120k kit. prob would have been quicker but i was at work trying to work at the same time LOL! :D

im not replacing the tensioner and pulleys unless i see probs with them, that can get done on the 100k. what do you think?

on the age of the cars these days i decided not to take the chance!!

it does cost that bit more but is worth it IMO

fair doooos, ill let you know if the whole thing goes pop in 100 miles!! :(

yep thats me.its a small world in it, bunnys a top bloke worked with him loads of times he told me about getting frightened on tinsley viaduct in a zed last week i take it that was yours.nice one :) !

hahahah. that was me. hes a reyt bottle boy walker, tell him if you see him that im going to give him a good hiding when i see him next.

btw, seen you on my street behind the fire station :D

yep sister lives there didnt see your car though.ill tell bunny aka ORVIL hehe, that your ready to take him on another test drive as soon...

dint want to say nowt till i get t' price, all went very smooth, just took it out for 120 miles, did a little 20-30 mile run last night, all seems well, just stepped in tho, gonna check the levels when she cools down. the cam belt is fine, dont think he found it hard at all!!

not sure if he wants the work for zeds ill have to speak to him on monday, it all depends if they make a labour loss on the job, ill let you know.

wooohooo

no bovva, do you want the full 60k? any other work?

full 60 and water pump cheers.btw went to sisters after getting back from TOTB looked for your zed but couldnt see any on there..

They didn't replace the VVT springs on that linky.

If your not confident about doing this or like me you don't mind doing this stuff, but earning a living and looking after the needs of a family, mean you just don't have more than a couple of hours each weekend to throw at it. Then all I will say is C&S Woods

They're in Manchester, but worth the trip over and if you come over the snake what a loverly run. I got there number if you want it just PM me.

I will recomend no one else these days, because of all the people I've ever taken mine to these are the only people that meet the standards I expect.

yeah, that guy did what i asked him to, was his frst zed, he said he found it no problem at all. he is the sort of guy that can handle any job and has loads of experience with fast souped up cars, not zeds tho. he will do what you ask him. great if you have summat go wrong and cant drive it (like i did)

craig, my car is usually in the garage if im not out in it. the mech says he is into doing more zeds, just got to confirm he wasnt working at a loss. ill let you know.
