Anyone had this problem

My Z developed a small problem today. When I blip the accelerator (in neutral or 1st gear) the revs actually go down about 500rpm before going up to where they should be. eg. 3000rpm. The revs only go down for half a second, but theres obviously something wrong. Does anyone have any ideas. 10% discount to anyone who guesses right :-)

(I sell Z parts in case you're wondering)

Thanks

Andy,

Could be the Idle valves see here for the strip down: http://home.swipnet.se/e-solutions/IdleTech.html

or Pull off the larger hose and spray carb cleaner down there!

Reset the idle as well.

Have you cleaned the Throttle Bodies recently?

I think we have all had this occurance at sometime.

My cure was:-

Clean throttle bodys.

Clean all the green shite off the PTU & TPS contacts, you wont believe how bad they get every year or so.

Dissconect battery after either or pref' both for hour or so.

Do an ecu diog' after a hours drive & see code?

This is most often caused by an uneven airflow from the throttle bodies, i.e. dirty or misaligned TBs.

Could be a clogged AAC-valve or an air leak or badly adjusted idle screw.

The list is long, you know...

I'd start with the throttle bodies.

Yes mine was doing that last year, cleaned out the throttle bodies with Valvoline carb cleaner and an old toothbrush, and it has been running as sweet as a nut ever since wink.gif.

Thanks for the help guys. The problem has gone away today. I noticed the rad fan was staying on all the time. I fiddled around with that connector/clip thing near the radiatior, the rad fan stopped, and since then, the problem has stopped. Does that add up ?? I know that connector is a common fault, and that if it makes a bad connection, then the rad fan will run continually. So if your rad fan runs continually (you know if its on properly because you can here the noise. It spins rounds continually anyway you see) then fiddle with that connector, and you'll probably fix the problem. Mind you, I didnt realize that would make the engine run in the way I descibed yeaterday???????

Thanks

I will look into that myself. I've had that problem for a while and thought nothing about it, but I have noticed my fan on all the time.
