Latest Model SWB / Slicktops ... 99 J-spec, NA conversion?

I'm having a friend of mine in Japan who's in the trade, source a latest model 2-seater / ideally slicktop that he can find as I need an everyday driver. so here's a few threads in one..

Does anyone know what year they made these until?

I've heard about 99-j-spec's having different lights, fenders etc... anything else? (what year did they make these special models until?)

Anyone else interested? unfortunately, it's going to be pricey.. and considering the recent massive downward trend in Z-prices.. it might look silly, but I'm going to go for it anyway. I'll post a thread at some point with a snap-shot of what the Japanese Market has on offer; for all you SWB enthusiasts.

Considering a NA as they are cheaper and then dropping a TT lump in? should I have any reservations?? anything else that I need to consider if I'm going to do this conversion?

Last 300s sold in 2000 I think.

99 spec have different front bumper, differnt rear lights, interior, stiffer chassis, factory tint windows, red Z badge, HID lights (option on NA) and a few other little bits.

You can't import one without doing an ESVA test - which costs thousands - and you have to pay again to re-test if it fails..

I don't know if many / any 99 cars were SWB. The Version-R was LWB only I think.

Dropping a TT lump in is £5K-odd job.

Even if you find one you'll not be able to legally drive it over here. SVA laws for cars under 10 years old and got very strict and it will not pass something like this anymore. They fall short of the emissions regs by quite a long way.

You'll be able to get a 96 model year over here, but nothing any newer.

The one i posted up is tuned but i dont think it would take too much work to get it through as it has a model report so stick an OEM exhaust with cats on and remove any electronics and i think it would pass the ESVA :)

Not cheap though lol but lovely

Any car post 01st January 1997 requires a model report, as there is no model report currently available for the 300 ZX and unlikely to be for the foreseeable future post 97 ZX's will not be able to registered in the UK... before the current ESVA rules kicked in last year yes it was possible to import a 1999 spec ZX but not now.

Oh?? i was told there was a model report for the 300zx?

Never mind lol

Mike

So Dave, you going to try and get some 99spec skirts?

You've gota be joking?? The last time I got a price, it was something like £1300 for a genuine set, and, afaIk, nobody makes replica ones. So will just have to be a Version S, instead of a Version R ;)

Ok! I knew about the SVA requirement as I've brought over about 10 cars,, but a few years ago. I know Modifications are a no-no now.. but didn't realize that it would be this difficult. Probably limit my search to a '96. Unless someone can tell me different.

This is probably good news as a my friend has been finding 98's - 2000 for £6K - £12K depending on mileage.

I'll stop looking then LOL.

Do you know of anything similar?

I want to keep things subtle.

Hi Graham,

I looked everywhere for something that was as close as it could be, but came up blank. I even asked a few traders if they knew of anything close, but all I got was the info on the genuine ones at £1300, and as I'm not all that much of a fan of side skirts anyway I decided to just have my stonechip fully removed instead. :)

Didn't it only cost about £500 for the SVA? Did you bring yours over before the laws got more strict?

Very nice car,, but I'm going for a SWB. :(

Mine was bought over before the law changed.

I think the SVA / ESVA costs more than £500 but that's only what I heard.

Why dont you bring it into Dublin where the law is different register the Car as an Irish (EU) car pay the VAT import into UK.

I was told that the UK won't accept these little tricks... spot them a mile away..

Not sure if I want to test them on it..
