looking at a z on sat, opinions please

Hi all,

Finally found a z in my price range, that looks clean & has not been sold yet!!!

1st, do you think the price is fair? £6000 for a 91 J plate, uk spec import(which I wanted to avoid really) TT, auto, targa roof, all extras it seems exept leather, 53000 miles, thatcham alarm, new cd player, recent full service inc cambelt, nice 17" rims, says its mint condition.

2nd, I planned to avoid imports, but got a reasonable ins quote from Tesco (£750) still need to shop around tho, but what about getting hold of spares? any problems or are all the bits the same as UK parts?

a speedy reply to this would be nice, getting the money out sat & will buy it if its as clean as he says.

thanks

Paul.

buying inported zeez are not realy that much of a problem if you know your way around the probs that can turn up. the main problems are cross ref of part numbers but with some help and reasurch the problems decrees drasticaly. it does take a bit more time to get over these probs, but then again nissan dealers dont stock most parts anyway. so the time for delivery is realy irrelevent. i purchased a 1991 na 300 zx import and have now got around the part probs with the help of this forum as everybody is hear to help. if you like it buy it.just one tip check there is no oil leak from the bell housing on the transmition as mine needs gearbox out to replace crank seal all this due to probs with psv valves. they only cost 20 squids each side but lots of hassel if they are blocked as the crank pressure builds up and turns the seal insideout.

Hi Paul - don't know about your price but www.parkers.co.uk might give you a guide. Loads of people here will help check out a prospective purchase (like Jeff TT in Tamworth I think). I wish I'd found these guys before I bought mine (mine is fine - but the advice would have been nice and I would have had more fun on this forum!) biggrin.gif

If you / your seller are anywhere near Solihull (The Boat Inn) on Saturday, you should come along. See Easter event in Events thread for details. There will be more Z knowledge in one car park than has even been seen before!

Where are you located and where is the car you are going to see? If its anywhere near Birmingham you could get 50 other Zeds coming with you to check it out, that would shock the seller LOL. The price could be a little on the high side but if the wheels are good, its what you want and its been well looked after and serviced then its fair. I may be selling mine soon for less than that (totally stock 1989 auto import with leather seats, minidisc, 10 disc CD changer). At that price there are a lot of good ones so go and see a few before deciding (and take someone from this forum with you, most of us know what to look out for)

Thanks for the advice guys, I am based in kent & the car is in surry (anyone local?!?!)

I too thought the price was a little high but, like you say, the wheels are nice smile.gif been serviced & low milage. just hope its as clean as he says on the phone!!

although iv not had much experience on these motors, im a tech for Mercedes, so checking it over shouldnt be a prob. any other known probs to look for tho?

Thanks again guys biggrin.gif

hi im in Sutton if thats of any help to you.

I f you want to mail me ill give you my number and i can speak to you about what you will want to look for. Saturday is the big easter meet, can you not put it off to sunday then come up there, the variety should be enough to get your mind sorted cheers

Look at the post from Rich.Baker about his Z he is a very good mechanic but still got suckered.

He has a clean 92 auto tt, had low oil pressure, so he had the bottom end rebuilt, then the auto box started to play up and now he has a garden ornament - a nice looking one but he looks silly sitting in it and reving it up.

My advice is take up one of the members here on thier offer to look at it for you
