Some of you know that i went to view a mark4 Supra today...

Anyway had a look its in really goood nick still standard (except wheels) and restricted to 112mph so im having it but ive got to get my Z sorted first before i let it her go.

Basically im pretty sure ive got mains seal failure due to dirty pcv valves.

Ive changed the pcv valves and hoses and its helped a bit but not enough.

what else could i try?

thinner oil to relieve oil pressure?

Any ideas on cost for a garage to drop box and replace seal ?as i think this is the way to sort it.Ive been told around £150-£175 labour and cost of seal-is this about right?

i just want to get that done and let her go as i have a buyer waiting but cant let it go in the state its in (im too honest they say!)

cheers guys

May I ask.......Why has it been restricted to 112MPH? it just seems a funny thing to do to a sports car. :)

All Japanese imports are restricted to 112mph from stock bud ;)

Sounds about right. Same labour charge to do the clutch really. Main seal is only about £10 or something like that.

that restrictor is the first thing to be removed!

Had the main sel replaced on a Z about 6 years ago - the mechanic didn't drop the box. I believe you can do it (with experience) with the box ''in-place''.

Good luck

Impossible. He either dropped the gearbox, or he did'nt change it.

He could of removed the rear main seal with the gearbox in place.

Im so jealous. B******.

...whatever he did it had a new rear seal - and I was told he didn't remove the gearbox. It stopped leaking oil and 6 years later I sold it - still not leaking oil.

Who's Christina A?

...so you guys are the experts - what's causing my car to have a floppy gear lever?

It must of been a different seal. The rear main seal is the seal inside the bellhousing, between the flywheel and engine. (thats not a great description).

Floppy gear lever - - gearstick bushes. The Parts are only a few quid, available from MJP, although a fiddly job to replace.

Well went arounda few places for prices...

the usual garage i use were reluctant to touch it..

the second place i went to said 'you cant drop the gearbox on them-its an engine out job!' gave me a price of £550- I laughed and walked out much to the guys displeasure lol

The third place i went to was Nissan dealership who wanted 6 hours (Yes 6 hours labour) and cost of parts (£26) to do the job -£480 all in

Im going to have to find some where quick though and i dont want to pay that sort on money on a car thats going at theend of the week!So Nissan are looking more and more likely as they can fit mein this week-hardly suprising with those prices eh lol

Took it to Nissan and it aint the rear main seal-something to do with the turbo with oil leaking onto the bellhousing-its under investigation as we speak...

Oil feed/return pipes?

Could explain the leak only on boost!

Get Christina A to stroke it nicely and that'll stiffen it up for a while.
