okay this is whats been happing to my Z in the past 2 weeks!... the top rad hose started to leak changed it... starter went out... waiting for the new one to come it... and now this!!! i was driving to work and then my car started to run a lil weried reved it up a lil and it went away for the rest of the ride to work (30 min)

now im leaving work so i get one of my buddys to push the Z so i can get her started ( bad stater) fired up but sounded like it was on 5 cly. drove it home like this the whole way... got home and pulled my plugs form the driver side

(the U.S side) they looked fine.. checked for spark getting spark.. what can it be i know its cly # 2 becuase wen i pull the coil nothing happens... changed the coil and still.....

cleaned the PTU

changed the plug with onther one

pressed down on all the packs

what can i do next? is it my injector?????!!!!!

when i rev it high it shoots out a huge flame.. wich makes me think its running rich but i have no idea

Featured Replies

the flame's because unburnt fuel's getting through (read: quit revving the *****cks of it whehn it's not running right!!!) - it's possible you PTU's dying. Try swapping the 'bad' coilpack with a good one to confirm the coil pack itself is ok.

changed the coil pack with another one.. i had one sitting around

what would happen if the PTU is dieing would it only do it to one cly. .. i know im getting power to the coil i tested it... but could it mean im not getting enouph power to it thats why its not fireing?

any one?

PTU can fail in many ways, including dropping a cylinder (even internittently as it heats/ cools). Best bet is to find someone local and swap the PTU and find out for definite.

If you have got a flame out the back, it sounds like an exhaust valve is burnt out or stuck open. With the engine running, remove each plug cap (wear rubber gloves or else) in turn to identify which cylinder is not firing, and then check the compression of the failed cylinder..

wel its the # 2 cly. i know that .... i have a realy bad valve tap wen i used to start up the car in the morning very load! but goes away as soon as i go for a 5 min drive.... i will do a compresstion test wen i get home and get a ptu to use and test...... is it bad to be driveing with it like that for now???

''is it bad to be driveing with it like that for now???''

erm...kinda! but don't thrash it everywhere!

i dont want it to be a burn valve or a sticking valve!!! any of u recomend a solution like and addative???

If the PTU has failed the car will just stop or not start unless it's cold, soon as it heats up it will stop again......

so your saying its not the ptu???

more help would be nice!

or, if one of the joints has broken, it will drop a cylinder, and carry on failing as it dies! Definitley can't rule out the PTU...

can it be the PTU even tho i am getting a spark????????

anyone?

you're saying that cyl#2 is running rich and spark but doesn't fire?

have you test the spark only with the coil pack or with the spark plug?

maybe you switch the injector connector, I don't know!

try this link, it might help you better than me :)

trouble diagnose

I would of said injector wiring but. If your getting a spark and overfueling it would be best not to drive it and carry out a compression test on cylinder 2.

well i realy dont know if its running rich im just assuming it is since its back fireing only out of the left side where the #2 cyl is.. my be the injector is stuck open... can i get to that injector using the dremal method?

i tested the spark with the coil pack only but i did switch out the spark plugs around and still the # 2 did not do a thing so im not realy sure wuts going on.....

i cant realy do a compression test till i get my starter in lol.... i went out and bought spark plugs yesterday so they should be getting them in 2day so im going to pick them up and see....

what else should i check? can the ptu send a aprk but can it not be powerfull enff to spark the plug??

If you take the #2 spark plug, it will be fouled with petrol if you're not getting a spark.

Where abouts are you?

Vijay

i live in the U.S newjersey.... yea im far from you.. well wen i pulled the spark plug out it was wet..... all others were dry.... i know im getting a spark to the coil pack dunno about the spark plug will test that wen i get home from work. but as i was saying can the ptu just be sending the spark at the wrong time??? or the injector is stuck open?

bump!
