maybe your starter motor has jammed,so the engine does not turn? if so you may need another starter motor.

would that make the loud grinding noise spinning ???

If it sounds like a spinning clicking noise and all your electrics on your dash disappears (lights goes out) then it's prob the starter motor. Either it's on it's way out or your battery isnt up to the job of cranking it. Try getting a jump start from another car and see if it starts. If it's not one of those two problems then it might be something else.

well i dont think its the battery.. becuse i had a dead battry once and that just made a clicking noise and the lights went out... this problem that i am having sounds like a lound grinding spinning noise

I'm sure someone else will be able to tell you whereabouts the starter motor is(as I have no idea) but you could always remove it and check it by using the battery and some jump leads. Does sound like it could be the starter though, it's spinning but not engaging.

Check the starter hasn't come loose, pretty common.

Is it manual?-if so it should bump-auto,sh!t outta' luck! ;)

i belive its is by the bellhousing of the tranny.... but ur expalntion makes since "its spinning but not engaging"... that would make the grainding sound and the spinning sound...

so i should check it by shaking around a lil ??? if i push start the car would that start the car even if it is a starter problem??

Grab the starter and give it pull, you shouldn't be able to shift it!

And yes the car should start if you can bump it.

okay thanks dude! im at work right now i will do that wen i get home hopfully thats it!! .... bye the way hows ur build going looks like its going to be awsome... i dont post much so i dont realy know if thats old or anything

could it possibly be the alternator???

could it possibly be the alternator???

if its making a grinding scraping noise, its your starter!!alternator is a charging motor, has no effect on starting, all it does is regulates battery power

check teeth on starter,if you carry on trying to start it you may damage the flywheel/ringgear so get it checked soon as

wen u say flywheel u mean the wheel on the starter not the actual flywheel of the clutch right???

if your starter is making a grinding noise then you need a replacement, what im saying is repetive starting may damage the flywheel/ringgear on the engine/gearbox and you dont want that!

yea but the thing is my engine is not even cranking at all not even attempting to.. the clutch fan wont even spin.....

Sounds like ur starter mate as everyone has said ly down by the drivers front wheel and look under neath and you will see the starter on the side of the box. try pushing it back on to see if its loose. if so tighten it with a 14mm and 17mm socket /spanner and see if that helps. heres hoping for you

To make things a little easlier look for the oil filter first, as it's very close to it. Shoved right next to the gear box just as the two exhaust pipes split futher apart from each other. No point in push starting it if it's an auto.

He means the flywheel behind the engine that the clutch bolts and engauges to, the ring gear is a toothed ring around the outside of the flywheel, the starter motor has a toothed end to it which engauges with the ring gear and turns the fly wheel which turns the engine to start it when you turn the ignition key. Its the toothed end of the starter motor not enguaging with the ring gear properly and not spining the flywheel hence no turning of the engine so no start. or the bendix of the starter (toothed end) is not extending out to engauge the flywheel and is just spinning in its retracted position also no turning of the flywheel so no start. Try hitting starter with a hammer this sometimes free's it up. good luck

is it a pain in the ass to change the stater??does the tranny have to come out?

On a pre-engaged starter the motor won't turn unless the selenoid has pushed the gear into position into mesh with the flywheel teeth. Hence it's name.

The problem will be either starter loose and come out of position, worn or missing teeth on the flywheel, or the one way sprag clutch on the starter gear will be slipping.

I had the same on another car last week, where it was the 3rd option.
