Just an idea I'm toying with, but rather than go all-out on expense for a whole new front-end and potentially be forced into a respray thanks to faded 15-year old "black", I'm thinking of modding my stock front end.

Has anyone else cut out the ribs on the intercooler ducts and meshed behind?

Possibly have to mesh the main (rad) duct so it all looks right.

I'm wondering if it would look any good. So... anyone else done this, and got any pics?

Cheers,

Well after a hard afternoon's photoshopping I've come up with pics of the front of my car suitably modded.

I'm undecided now, but I actually quite like the ribless ducts without mesh. Obviously there'd need to be something there to stop crap hitting the intercooler. Maybe a coarse black mesh, or some kind or ribs behind the duct? Dunno. Here are the pics anyhoo...

That's subtle, but looks pretty good actually!

Might not look as good on a black car as the remaining rib wouldn't stand out tho.

iirc, kirbz modified his bumper to fit a fmic on his

old z.

Just a thought: wouldn't mesh basically form a 'flat panel'

at speed, therefore reducing airflow to the intercoolers?

An age-old discussion this, but basically yes it does.

heres mine, the number plate on the original looks ugly as sin and far too cumbersome IMO, and altho mine isnt legal now i do think it looks miles better...

u can either have the plate where it is on this pic, or above this (as mine is now with a less illegal size plate)

u could also mesh behind the fins as well if you wanted,...

p.s. doin the centre piece between the lights also helped a lot i think..

My old front end, modified by a nice person in Japan:

The previous Japanese owner put two holes in the front and inserted a metal air "scoop" which sat behind the fascia to funnel more air into the Zed's notoriously hot engine bay. I always intended to mesh the two intake holes which would've made it look quite good but never got round to it.

My modified 99 spec (technically stock ;)):

And there's an OEM bumper underneath here somewhere:

 ;)

tbh i didnt have to cut it to fit the fmic but just to look a little different/more aggresive and to get more air to the intercooler

I did also modify my last zeds bumper as well with meshing and it looked well :)

Do you know where I can get a smaller front number plate like yours from as I'm wanting to do the same!!! Cheers, Jon
