As you are all aware, knife culture is a current media theme and associated programs are everywhere. It seems to me that the media is representing knife culture as existing solely in black communities, I wonder if this is media misrepresentation or is it fact?

One particular program on TV earlier tonight was about knives but mostly focused on the black community without saying so in as many words. Is it a black issue? I know it affects everybody but what's causing it, where’s it coming from? Is it another American import?

Any views would be very much appreciated. I feel this really is a very important issue and merits a bit of good discussion and all your comments are very important. Nothing racist though please as that’s not where I coming from.

Anyone care to comment?

Regards,

Chris

You should NEVER smack children. :nono:

You should nip them instead. A nip is a firm pinch on the inner part of the upper arm. This will have them in tears and you don't need to raise your hand or anything. It's much more discrete too - it just looks like the kid's burst into tears for no reason. If you give them a whack, you get all sorts of funny looks from by-passers.

If they're really bad, you can burn the soles of their feet with a hot crack pipe.

Knife culture is not new !!

When i was at school in the 70/80s it was about then, i dare say it was around for decades before that ?

I no its shocking for some people !!

I think the problem is with the media coverage you get theses days.

Something brings a certain issue to the news and then the media flog it publicly for a few weeks then they move on.

A few weeks ago it was Bird flu every few minutes on every channel in every paper etc etc.

Then its Wayne fooking Rooney

Now its Knife culture

Next week it will be something else !

lol - and thats not nasty.....

Hey i'd never hit my kid in this country.... i'd get locked up...

just saying that the smacking kids ban is the reason you get youngsters turn out the way they are...

There's no ban on smacking kids in the UK

The law states that you should not use undue force which leaves a lasting mark or bruise on the skin AFAIK

I don't have to smack my boy cos when he was a toddler and i told him no, if he didn't listen to me I would slap his hand. Now if I say something he does it, without question and strait away.

Now for a little story about manners.

While walking with my wife, 17year old daughter and 10 year old son past a pub in Cairns while we were living there, two lads came out of a pub p!ssed up and fooling around, I was on my guard instantly as I was a few yards behind looking in the window of a dive shop.

The one lad started to say "Oi ya Fu###n C##t that" stopped dead, saw the wife and kids and promptly said, and I quote, "Oh I'm sorry, I didn't see you with your kids, I'll have to watch my language when I'm out and about."

He then had a small conversation with the wife walked over to me, offered his hand and apologised for his langauge.

I tell you its a real shock to be confronted with manners when you are used to abuse.

TRUE. I was surprised at this new 'knife culture' we've been hearing about. I was also in school during the '70's and '80's and EVERYONE carried a knife, the most popular ones were Stanley knives. I seem to remember that some people used to put two blades in together, seperated by a match-stick, so that any slash wound inflicted would be a double cut and therefore harder to stitch up. :wack:

Personally, I'm a woos when it comes to violence, but even I used to carry around a Bowie knife from Scouts, or sometimes a divers knife I used to have. Flick knives and 'stilletto' knives, obtained from day-trips to France were also popular.

As with most things, I doubt that there is that much more of it today than there was before, but we get to hear about it a lot more because the media are constantly looking for the next 'sensation, shock, horror scoop!'.

It's all *****x. :smash:

Smacking kids?????? My boy is nearly 20 now I should imagine he might fight back now  PMSL. I think not. respect is all you need to teach your offspring. If you do that correctly then they will have a headstart in life.

Knife wearing used to be part of the dress code for a biker years back. "Its a very handy tool" officer. "I can change my spark plugs adjust my chain carry out a full service and completely re spray my tank with it". NO! "Its not a weapon"....

Lets face it OK a knife can kill but most anything can be used as a weapon. Even a newspaper ..............with a lead pipe wrapped inside it?

Maybe I chose the wrong title for this thread ... I didn't mean "knife culture" I meant people using knives and what effect it has on everyone's lives today.

get a grip guys and girls ... try to keep to the original question ... everyone's comments are appreciated but try not to wander posting meanless drivel .. ta
