is this normal?

got a short shift and a veilside aluminium knob. the gaiter does not reach the knob and the exposed bit of shaft (can you dig it? :) ) gets pretty hot, almost too hot to touch for an extended time.

Wrong oil maybe. Gear change is nice and fluid, appart from the usual part time 4th syncro and can't seem to get into 2nd without stopping when totally stone cold.

I'm off down the pub :duffer:

i have the same setup and mine gets hot all the time but haven't had any problems.

because you wear gloves? ;)

I've got a Nismo aluminium knob and the sun gets it so hot that it actually hurts to change gear :(

mainly due to transmission heat, and having targas use a rubber knob it aint so bad,so my misses tells me :smash:

I have a short shifter and an ali knob (gear knob) and it gets really hot too. Like Greg said, it's mainly transmission heat build up, but dont forget the exhaust sits right under there too. Couple those facts with hot sun and voila - one hot knob  !

i dont have a short shifter, but my razo knob gets red hot when the car's left in the sun - i need to have a cloth in my hand to change gear
