Club – an association united by a common interest and meeting periodically for co-operation.

Ask yourselves do we have a common interest? The answer to that must surely be yes! We are owners and enthusiasts of one of the best performance cars to come out of Japan. Our Club helps us to enjoy our Zs with a huge pool of knowledge, enthusiasm, support and cooperation from fellow owners and enthusiasts from all over the UK. I’ve owned my Z for over eight years and I’ve loved every minute of it. For me the Club should represent everything that is good about the Z and the people who own and enthuse about them.

Looking back over the last few days I have to wonder though. We seem hell bent on spoiling all the good things about our Club that has been built up over the years. Why would we want to do that? To a visitor we appear to have a very hostile atmosphere. Do we really feel so bad about the way the Club runs and our fellow members that we have to resort to the sort of behaviour on the forums that we would never do if we were actually face to face? I’m always struck by the fact that when we get together at our meets how friendly everyone is towards each other. Why can’t we use the forums in the same manner as we do when we meet in person? Use common sense, and be respectful and decent to other people - that’s all it takes.

We have grown to over 450 full members and are the largest and best 300ZX community in the UK. Something we should be all proud of being part of. We are a mature and properly organised Club with a constitution, rules and structure. All the people who run the Club from the Committee, the regional events organisers and the forum moderators do so your behalf and freely give up their time because they believe in the Club and what it stands for.

We have our AGM at JAE this July and everyone has the opportunity to meet the Club’s team face to face and raise issues and make suggestions to take our Club forwards. From what I’ve read on the forums recently there should be plenty of things to discuss.

Let’s just take a deep breath and step back and remind ourselves what this Club is really all about - an association united by a common interest and meeting periodically for co-operation. In other words having fun and enjoying being part of a great Club.

Best wishes

-Andrew

very well put.

im away for a few days.. we week and it all goes mental!!

I for one enjoy being part of this club, as many of you know its my only form of social life (yes im a sad old git) due to my conditions.

i enjoy the meets i manage to get to, and them people i get to meet , since being a member here and owning my car i have learned an immense amount about my car, things i would have otherwise not known.

i for one think the mods and committee do a great job and are running the club very well.

i am plesaed to be a part of this club and always bring it to peoples attention when i meet a new 300 owner.

this year we have jae and to top that off we are going to be part of a special event to raise money for an immensely worthwhile charity. how many clubs can profess to being an organiser and part of that?

im proud to be a member here and look forward to coninuing my membership here.

That is very well said Andrew.

Hopefully people will take on board your comments and this will calm things down.

I second that and would like to add that coments made in haist are often merely a emotive outburst and as such have no place in the public domain. Just step back and think about the what you want to say. The rules are there for those who wish to read them. If you have a problem follow the proper chanels instead of using the forum for public slinging matches as it taints what is a good and enjoyable club for the vast majority.

all i can add to this is that i love this club and it has help me with so many things with my car.i would hate to lose it over silly comments that have been doing the rounds on the board.

keep up the good work :hyper:

As a newbie i've been keeping my head down over the past week or so which isn't what this club is all about.

I got my Zed from a club member, I've got advice from club members and met club members and can only say positive things about all of the above.

It's a great club, best money you can spend as a Zed owner :smw:

I love the club and get loads from it. Long may it continue. And massive thanks to those who run it and all the memebers.

I do wonder if the AGM at JAE is the best place to make big decisions. Didn't we vote at last AGM to NOT do that and to make them online using polls as this is mainly an internet based club and not everyone can make it to JAE (a point well made by 'Jock'). Also when we do have the AGM, some people have had a couple of beers and others may be intimidated to stand up and speak in front of a sea of unknown faces.

I think when we talk about things like traders policy, we're talking about people's livelyhoods so it is important. Plus the traders are a cornerstone of the club and something that helps us all run the cars we love. In other words it IS important.

It would be good if there were a way to sort out disputes like this on-line rather than at the AGM which only happens once a year and has limitations.

The past few days events suggest to me a members only forum could be a better arena for this than those accessible by the pubic.

Just my thoughts!

Here here.

Very well said Andrew, couldnt have put it better myself

Recently ive found certain people gunning for an arguement .. its not right .. this is a great club .. i came back to this after losing my first Z in 1999 and still think the cars are great!!!

As many of you know ive organised the Z convoy world record attempt .. a way to unite the WHOLE of the club .. make a great name for the club ... raise a ton of money for a great cause and most of all so we can ALL enjoy and appreciate our Z,s and other members

I have approached numerous media enterprises to view the responses to the convot thread .. incl Banzia magazine and BBC,s Top Gear .. and with all the arguements going on of late is isnt making us look very profesional .. this is a great opportunity for us as members and the club !!

Come on guys .. lets get back to having a joke and enjoying our Cars .. because at the end of the day its the Z that brings us here ... and some seem to have forgotten that!!

John

P.S .. those that havnt confirmed if they can attend or not .. could you please email or PM me ;)

:hyper: well done andrew ive kept right out of the mess.

i love this club for the z info, numerous friends who i have met through the club and i wish to make loads more.

to me my z is the best car i have ever had the pleasure to own and being part of a community that shares the same enthusiasm as myself i feel very proud.

i wish to stay part of this fine community and hope things sort itself out quickly and return to normal (especially as im gonna need some advice soon lmao  )

so come on everyone GROUP HUG

love the club for all its niggles but remember we are all supposed to be mates here.

thanks for listening to me waffle on :p

As an observer over the last week or so, its very easy to understand why things got out of hand on this forum, as with other forums.

The fundamental problem with a forum is we all appear anonymous and 2D until we meet face to face, so its very easy to chip in comments ad hoc and not really see the impact of our comments on others. And as stated earlier, we would rarely dream of saying some things directly to the face of others - unless the situation needs it!

I personally think some gripes were neccessary to bring some unsaid issues to the fore but as members we ALL have a responsibility not to keep the fires burning when these issues come up :nono: . It just looks crap to those taking a look in at the club. Perhaps a private area for subscribed only to air their probs maybe an option...who knows.

But on another note, this club has been gr8, Ive always had plenty of help and advice when needed, folk have chipped in their comments which have been extremely helpful.

Im looking forward to getting my zed on the road again and getting to a meet....I like to put avatars and faces together :D

there you go....my 3 pence worth :D

Marc

I agree with most the stuff you have said Andrew, i also think we do have a few issues which need to be adressed but as i kept saying in most of my posts, there is a way of voicing these concerns and if people feel the need to, then go to JAE and stand up and speak :) or as members of the committee have said PM them

But also on the other side of the coin, not everyone can get to JAE due to work and family commitments so maybe as this is predominantly an online club perhaps more should be done online, and not by PM but in the members area so people can discuss it and see that things are talked about and decided by the majority, and with enough moderators anything said that gets too heated could be stamped upon quickly before it goes OTT, after all we are suppose to all be adults that can hopefully agree, or agree to disagree and move on.

Some really excellent suggestions and put in a nice tone too

While i agree in principle it "should" be able to happen like that but as you know it rarely does and it always ends up in a slanging match etc and then you just know its going to be closed but i'm sure the mods/committee members wouldnt mind issues being discussed on the board if they were done in the right manner and way!??

I understand that not all people can get to JAE but i'm sure you know someone who will be going and sure you could get them to voice any questions on your behalf??

But from experience when the meetings go on either no one is there or no one speaks up, i know i have sat there!!

Mike

well done andrew nice speech,,,more of the same

I am with you bud.

And I agree with you that it rarely does go that way, perhaps another way of looking into that problem would be for the moderators to get a bit harder on people that just want to go on and on about the same subject because they did not get the answer they wanted, give them an explanation on the thread and not by pm so other members can see they have been warned to hopefully stop them jumping into the argument then a 24 hour to 7 day ban. A bit like the death sentence, how many people would commit murder if they knew it would up with them on the end of a rope????

Spot on there Mark

Just because someone gets really angry cos there car seems to have had bad servicing it does not mean at all the club is going to pot. I love these forums and the club and will continue to do so. Unless most of the club bears arms about something i myself will refrain from intellectual masturbation :)

Well said Andrew, this is a great place and lets keep it like that ;)

I dont think anyone could have put it better Andrew.

I would like to have a say too. (if anyone could be bothered to read):

I joined this club just over a year ago. I was quite new to this kind of thing and very green. I was easily pushed into an arguement and found it was very easy to loose the plot with other peoples opinions. This I am glad to say is a thing of the past for me and if I can do it so can anyone? I still disagree with some things but know the right time and place to aire my views. Its not easy to adjust to this way of life (and without a doubt, it is a way of life for most of us) and as Andrew says, in the flesh you would think we have known each other for many years but on the forum its back to the slagging matches????

I really think the best solution at hand would be to confine (ANY arguement (if there has to be one) between ANY member) to the members section. This will help stop potential new members from being discouraged from joining.

And please stop argueing with the comittee. They might not always seem to do it the right way but they will always do it for the right reasons.

We are none of us perfect?

Thats me done. Thanks.

Vince
