Piicked the Z up, passed the MOT well except for the front numberplate had fell off, anyway question is what is the above, this was an advisory item?

Featured Replies

Guessing its something for the abs unit to measure the rate of speed decay from the wheels, wouldnt have thought it would be an mot thing though

I though it was a device used to test the brakes. If they've no info re brake performance (cos it's a jap import) - or a rolling-road type brake test facility, they use a brake decelerometer to check brake performance. They place it in the front passenger footwell, take the car for a spin and slam on the anchors. If the readin's ok, the brakes pass the test...

At least this is what they used to do in the old days... I was there! ...and I could be completely wrong.

dont they have to use one of those if you have a limited slip diff

Funny you should say that, that's mentioned on the advisory item list after the thread title. My back discs are slightly worn and pitted though.

what that means is they tested your car using a tapley meter.all mot stations have them if they test any permenent 4wd vehicles all though why they tested a zed using one is baffling.perhaps the rolling road died when graced by a zed!

sure i heard that if up put a car with a L S D on the rollers that it fooks the diff, could be wrong though

you can only test a car with a lsd on certain types of rollers if mot station has older type rollers they have to use a decelerometer to chack your brakes, every mot station must have one of these , but why they have advised you on this i dont know, maybe examiner just being a bit over cautios but nothing to be worried about.

yep your right lsd or prmanent 4 wheel drive on older style rollers and good chance of broken diffs, you do get computerised rollers that you can test 4wd or lsd,s on as well tho.
