Recommendations for Shocks

Just noticed that the dust covers on my rear shocks have completely rotted, I assume that with all the muck from the road getting to them, they need changing?

It looks like standard replacements are £30+VAT (per shock) at Zcentre, is there anything else worth considering (make/model), and should the fronts and springs be replaced at the same time?

Also, I’m not very knowledgeable on suspension, will the standard springs work with aftermarket shocks, or do the springs need changing to match the shocks?

Not really after lowering the car, but not against it (a bit), and would be happy with slightly better/stiffer suspension than standard.

Thanks

David

Stock springs and Shocks will be worn at this age/mileage anyway, unless already replaced.

new Stock shocks are not bad, and a set of Eibach springs makes a big difference. They have progessive fronts and lower by about 0.8" and will work on Stock or uprated shocks.

The Stock Rears are £30+vat each, but fronts are more like £100 each. So your looking at around £300 for the full set of stock shocks.

However for that price you can get a set of KYB AGX adustable shocks (Smithy has them for around £300 on his website). They are better than stock, and give you easy adjustablity, and are a very popular upgrade.

There's no need to change the shocks for perished dust covers, just buy universal steering rack gaiters to replace them.

Zcentre now sell stock front shocks as well £75 each

Thanks.

There are other things I’d rather spend £500 (£300 shocks + £200 Springs) on at this time (nice 7" touchscreen for the carputer!); but I assumed that as it looks like the covers have been missing for some time, and they appear to be the original ones (91 car), the shocks would be well shot by now.

Having said that there appears to be no signs of oil leakage from them, but I’ll have proper look and give them a bounce test before rushing out to buy a new set.

I’ll have to ask Smithy for a price for the shocks and springs!

Oh well, thats the touchscreen on hold, impulse buy last night on ya5een’s D2 RS Racing Coilovers!
