wat is a PTU?

could someone please explain wat this is and its perpose and why there is a version 2 of it. also where on the car is it?

    PTU, Power Transistor Unit!

    Series two version replaced the inadequate (sp) series one version. Basically the first version was susceptible to heat/vibration damage, especially as it is mounted on the front of the engine, on the right hand cam cover. Quite a few people re-position it in a better location, mine is mounted under the centre panel between the headlamps, but only because I have an Apexi air filter fitted and not the standard one. Other places to mount them are the forward section of the left hand inner wheel arch, and some even go to the lengths of making a special bracket for it.
